  • Smaller, slightly difficult.
This little thing fits in the palm of your hands. There are good things about this, there are bad things and I guess that would be subjective vs. objective. I'll be comparing this to my older, no longer sold, monitor, the True Track. I even put up some pictures to help. First, you are sent these items in a small hard-shell case. I was so surprised it was so small, compared to the True Track. It comes with a few lancets and 2 bottles of strips, and that thing that the lancets goes in to stick you for the blood sample. It also comes with a battery on the OUTSIDE of the Auvon DS-W machine, so you will need to put that into the monitor before using. If you have any kind of dexterity issues, this will be difficult. No matter how hard I tried to open the case, it wouldn't slide off. While I wouldn't advocate this, I got fed up, said a couple of colorful metaphors and chucked the whole thing across the room. Later, when I picked up my mess, lo & behold, the secret to opening was in the throwing. I was able now to put the battery in. The next challenge was which way did it go? I guessed and won the bet. You can tell that by this time, I was already skeptical. Next, loading the lancing device with the lancet. I found that the lancet appeared smaller than the Rely On (Walmart brand) lancets, but really they are the same size, just a different color. That is nice to know! The device itself, I have yet to use. If you are older & require readers, make sure to wear them because you cannot see the numbers at the top of the lancet device because they are so small. This part is harder to twist for the depth of the needle stick, in my opinion. If you have a dexterity issue - arthritis or even rheumatoid arthritis, this may be difficult to use. You have to twist to open it up to put the lancet inside. It wasn't easy. Could be that it's just new, I'm just learning this - so we'll cut it some slack there. The good thing is that there's a grey bar on the side, similar to the bar on a pen that holds it to a pocket...in fact, originally that's what I thought it was for. I've learned since this grey bar lifts the lancet out of the tube piece you put it in before twisting the cap off the sharp end. In the TrueDraw lancing device, you have to pull it out carefully but the Auvon one has the bar to lift it out. I think I like that feature & will definitely try it out. The clear button on the other side is how you make the mechanism "snap" to stick. I wasn't sure, at first, whether the grey bar was a defective button or what. The strips are a little smaller, but not by much. It seems that it takes a little less blood than the Truetrack. One side is blue, the other side is striped. I'd already been used to the Truetrack which is striped on one side and white on the other, so at first, I put the striped side up the same way. Nope, it wants the blue side up. The machine looks like it want the strip to go in at roughly a 40-45 degree angle, but no, it slides in like the other monitors. WHEW! I have to push it a little harder to get the machine to turn on; I'm still a little afraid I'll bend the strip, but it's likely more sturdy than I give it credit. By now, you're asking - why didn't you read the directions? Well, if the booklet were bigger than a a book of matches, yes, that would have been a brighter idea. I agree. Think I'll watch the videos - I can't speak to the "Hi Tech" on this machine because I haven't had the time to play with that feature. Anyhow, less blood on the strip means that I might not have to literally squeeze the blood out when my fingers are cold or when I just wake up & there's nothing there. If you've been doing this, you know how it is: some days are gushers and some days are dry. It also gives a longer time to get that blood than the other machine. Monitor accuracy - I wanted to test that. The whole reason I bought this was because Truetrack has gone by the wayside and when I bought a replacement (with bluetooth so I could record the results), she mistakenly put an older model of Truetrack in the bag. I had run out of strips and was in need, so I figured, where else but Walmart or Amazon? Amazon won. LOL. Anyhow, I used my last True Track strip to test the same finger that I tested the Auvon DS-W. I know we'e not supposed to, results will vary, etc. Well, the results *were* different, the Auvon said my sugar was at 112 and the TrueTrack said it was at 106. I'll take either one of those results, thank you! All in all I'm happy with the purchase. I gave this only 4 stars because of the difficulty in reading the tiny book it came with and the difficulty opening the case (I still can't re-open it, so I hope the battery life is a while.). I'm not unhappy with this choice. ... show more

  • Very easy to setup and use 👌
I liked the easy set-up. But the Test Strip Containers Aren't Travel friendly and don't fit well in the travel pouch. They should be redesigned to fit into the pouch with everything else.

  • First time try. Not so hard.
Steroids have put my glucose a bit out of control. The Doctor's office sent a prescription to a drug store to assemble a complete "kit" of all the necessary components. $200!!!!! Yikes. I read the reviews and the Auvon seemed to be the easiest and cheapest to get going. I, of course, read the instructions. One thing that sent me to this one was that I don't need to "calibrate" the strips- as long as I continue to use the Auvon strips. It came with 100 but don't know what the refill costs will be. Hopefully I won't be using it long enough to see the costs. I did my first test this morning after going over the instructions/components. The pokey thing is a little complicated but after a few minutes I figured it out. I hate getting my fingers poked, so dialed in the least exposure on the needle and it was ok. Not the simplest gadget, but it worked. I only have one complaint: It doesn't come with alcohol wipes, so I have to obtain those separately. ... show more

  • Seems consistent.
Have had the one on right for almost 3 years so since the kit only costs $5 more than just getting the strips figured it'd be good to have a 2nd one to test against, and as you can see, new one on the left and old one on right tested right after each other is pretty much exact; I am satisfied. Don't know how it fares against different brand but has a feature to estimate A1C and is close to labwork results. ... show more

  • inexpensive blood glucose monitor
I purchased this blood glucose monitor because I am on a low carb diet and wanted to monitor my blood glucose levels. I chose this device based upon independent internet reviews as well as the low cost of device ($32.99) and replacement test strips (approximately $.16 each). I can't attest to the accuracy of this device but based upon the readings I have been getting, the results seem to be consistent. I ordered the kit with 150 test strips. Unfortunately, this kit only comes with 50 lancets so I had to purchase additional lancets (100 count for $7.59). Device is easy to use with results within 6 seconds and does not require a large amount of blood. Device stores up to 100 readings and provides 7, 14, and 30 day averages in addition to individual readings. I have not stored 100 readings yet so I am not sure what happens after that occurs. Also, I haven't figured out how to clear the memory. I tried to remove battery to reset the device to zero but the memory was still retained after reinserting the battery. Note, battery cover is difficult to remove. Lancet device has multiple depth settings (1-5 with half steps included). Instructions say lancet device should make clicking sound when pulling back the end of the device to load lancet. Mine does not, however, I hear a clicking sound when I insert the lancet and the device works properly when I push the button to activate the lancet to prick my finger. Kit came with a draw string bag to store the device/supplies. When I registered my product through the company website, my warranty was extended from 1 year to 2 years. I have been using the device multiple times per day for about a week and have been satisfied with the product and the results it provides. ... show more

  • Excellent device for the price
Have to be careful that if you don’t get a good drop of blood, it will give an erroneous reading. Otherwise, easy to use, reliable, checked well against clinical devices.
