  • Gets right with the program

I bought it to use with a vacuum chamber and it does the work without complaint.

  • WASTE OF MONEY
Size: 12CFM2S
Pulled down to 17.5. after holding 17.5 for 10 minutes, started smoking, sounded like bearings were coming apart. Whole pump housing was too hot to touch. Turned it back on after it cooled, will not pull a vacuum at all. Waste of money. Buy the name brand- no Chinese junk

  • Trash
Size: 7CFM2S
Worked for 2 evacuations on 8 ton systems. Is now incapable of running longer than 15 minutes without overheating and stopping. It doesn’t have a check valve. Plastic caps are leaky. If you have 300 dollars more lying around, you could buy a yellow jacket bullet x, for example, and focus on the actual system rather than the pump itself, but for the price, this thing can work if you're careful not to let it overheat. ... show more

  • IT CAME UNDER-FILLED WITH OIL
Size: 5CFM2S
The pump arrived with barely enough oil. With low oil level, the pump was noisy and inefficient. With the oil at the top of the allowable range it is much quieter. You should have a container of vacuum pump oil on hand when this pump arrives. When used with low restrictions (no schrader valves, and no core depressors) and a short big bore hose with a 3/8" SAE fitting on the pump end this pump does not heat up excessively. I am consistently able to achieve a vacuum of below 200 microns. I suspect that the reviewers whose pumps are overheating are using restrictive hoses and fittings which make achieving a low vacuum difficult with any pump, thus causing the pump to run longer etc. I deducted a star for flimsy plastic fittings that go on the unused ports. ... show more

  • NOT for HVAC pros
Size: 8CFM2S
Qualifications - Five years in the industry, NATE plus multiple certifications. I needed a decent pump to hold me over for a job or two. Not only did this pump not perform, but it in fact added hours to a compressor replacement. Not only did it struggle to get down to 500 microns, at 400 the pump began shutting down due to overheating. When I finally switched the pump (after another trip to my shop) I realized this little piece of s*** had somehow managed to drive all of its oil through the vacuum ports and up into my manifold. How this even happened has myself and several other senior techs completely baffled. Short story long, I then had to flush the line set, re-clear with nitrogen, vacuum with a good quality pump before I could even finish. Message; a 3 hour job took 7. Including the price of the pump, I made less this week than if I would have sat naked in a bean bag chair eating Cheetos, and now I still need to buy a new one. Stellar. ... show more

  • Order metal caps... you'll thank me!
Size: 7CFM2S
Good: It seems to be overkill to use 7CFM pump on a small mini-split but I had other uses that it'll work great on. I liked how it had a universal adapter built into the head... Other: However, no one seems to sell the 3rd of the 3 brass caps used for sealing the unused port. Totally out of stock of the convenient 3-pack-on-a-chain on Amazon, though that's not Autogen's fault. If you offered accessory kits like the Schrader valve removed and adapters+hoses, might get some upsell. Bad: The plastic caps are pretty certain to not hold a strong vacuum, making an otherwise nice pump fail to perform as well as it can. I finally found the 3rd cap (that is only used for AC unlike the other two flare fittings) and got it working. ... show more

  • The pump is a bit rattly…
Size: 5CFM2S
I was pleased to see thee pump arrive..hurrah! Then I read the manual and see “DOES NOT SHIP WITH OIL” And then read further to the phrase “DO NOT RUN WITHOUT OIL OR THE PUMP WILL OVERHEAT”. (Enthusiasm wanes). So i go back online to order the only oil they recommend…($150 per quart!!!)….’come-oooon maaaan!’ And end up ordering a decent premium oil for $18 quart…and find out the Harbor Freight compressor oil for $10 per quart will do perfectly! Put in the correct amount of oil and plug in then switch on..grinding rattling noises for the first 10 minutes as the sloppily machined bits shave off rough spots and smooth out. I didn’t expect a sewing machine but I paid a lot extra-DOUBLE- the cost of the cheap one so I would have a long-life machine….which I highly doubt by the sound of the start up. The caps all have to be replaced with brass caps and O rings to seal when not all ports are in use. The plastic caps are a joke and do not hold vacuum.. If you only want to use this for your air conditioning unit on your car once every couple of years this will work fine. If you’re trying to build your own milking machine or a vacuum chamber for a wood shop or metal shop….keep shopping….or better heat gut an old throw away refrigerator and hook up the refrigeration pump using the vacuum side…that what I’m going to end up doing as I sit this on the shelf as a pretty lesson in supply side economics and disappointment. ... show more
