  • re-re-review
this was my second copy of this book I received , the first had a big dent on it because of bad packaging and this one came without a dent on the outside so I was thrilled. It was short lived though. I didn't notice the binding so much but it did seem a bit loose but by the time I flipped ever so gently through it the second time as you can see in the pictures the binding completely split. there were big gaps between the pages where it was threaded. I quickly returned it and ordered my third copy hoping it would be better. I looked through it a bit and the binding seemed ok but when you really study the binding it doesn't seem so glued on well...very strange. Its a shame I am afraid to even look at this book now for fear it will fall apart. all the other older reviews seemed great...so maybe these are older copies that have been sitting in the warehouse for a couple of years? I don't know. I would never go through this trouble if it wasn't for how much I love the book....thankfully amazon returns are easy. But it was just one disappointment after another. I have never had binding problems with any other amazon books I have ordered. heres hoping my new one doesn't break the second time I look at it! ... show more

  • AUDREY AT HER PEAK!
The first time I saw Audrey Hepburn was in BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S. I was thirteen and she made an indelible impression on me. She was just beautiful with an elfin charm, an effortless quality on the screen that has never been matched by any actress on screen since. It was also my first truly adult movie and Audrey represented this sophisticated, elegant, gorgeously dressed image unlike any other. CHARADE was next and I was hooked. I made it my mission to see every Audrey Hepburn film I could find and nearly 50 years later, she remains my absolute favorite movie star. When Audrey died, I was frankly surprised that she meant so much to so many and since then, her life has been the subject of numerous biographies, style and photo books, tributes, short stories, calendars, etc. Most cultural icons who die lived lives of addiction and excess. Think Elvis, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, and they died relatively young. Audrey was in her 60s, and decades beyond the glory years as a romantic screen ingenue, Except for the occasional small film appearance, Audrey was pretty much retired. She had become more famous as an international UN Embassador traveling worldwide to champion the cause of starving children. Yet she continued to fascinate, and her films on VHS and later on DVD continued to extend her legend. Her extraordinary timeless fashion appeal never went out of style--and is still emulated today. I've managed to accumulate a lot of books dedicated to Audrey's life and work, which now numbers over 20 volumes. Naturally, I had to have AUDREY: The 60s. Beginning with BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S, the book follows Audrey's ascent to superstardom through her final eight films of the decade, made in six short years. David Wills, a photo curator, editor and photographic preservationist, has gathered many new and familiar Hepburn images from her films, and from the Vogue fashion sessions she participated in. Richard Avedon, Bert Stern, Cecil Beaton, Douglas Kirkland, and many other great photographers capture that unique Audrey quality. Friends, colleagues, designers and others provide their own perspective on the Audrey they knew, and Audrey is also quoted from interviews she gave during this period. The iconic Givenchy fashion that helped cement her reputation, shares space here in the sumptuous period costumes of MY FAIR LADY and the ultra-modern swinging 60s costumes she wore in TWO FOR THE ROAD. This beautiful book, designed by Stephen Schmidt, is a must for Audrey collectors. Bound in Tiffany-blue buckram, and surrounded by a jacket photo of Audrey during a fashion shoot on the front and a classic BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S little black dress on the back, AUDREY; The 60 is the most stylish collection of Audrey photos we've had thus far. ... show more

  • One of my favorites
I've bought probably 20 or so books on Audrey, and this one is easily one of the top 5. I actually don't care for the 60's that much, or Audrey's fashions which started to gravitate away from the glamour of the 50s to more street-style looks and flourishes of hippie culture. But what I do love is the way this book assembled the content in a loving manner. It's structured around her 60's films, providing a mix of stills and photos presented in full page in an oversized book. There's a mix of her own quotes, movie lines, and quotes about her that accent the photos. There's little text, so this is more of a way to browse the content and remember the movies in a pleasant manner, and it feels like flipping through memories rather than reading a book. One thing that puts this book over the top - the was a photo of Audrey in Two for the Road that I've only seen once, in an issue of Premier magazine, that I've never been able to find again. This book had it, and I'm really grateful for that. I didn't think I was ever going to find that particular one again, and now I've finally got a copy for my collection. Thanks for producing such a fantastic book. I sure hope the author prepares another one that covers the 50's as well. ... show more

  • One of the 20th-Centuries great photographic beauties
I was a Hepburn fan long before we met at a screening of "The Mission" in Century City back in 1987. Even though I startled her, she was still gracious enough to listen to my pathetic little speech about how much I loved her films as a child growing up. To my utter surprise, she rewarded me with a gentle kiss on the cheek! "Audrey, The 60s" brings back some of those memories in one of the most beautiful collections of photographic images this side of the late Bob Willoughby. I must admit to having seen most of them at the movies or perusing the numerous editions of Life and Look magazine for which she posed. So to have them bound in one beautiful volume is a real treat. Unlike the movie business, which changed significantly since her last film, 1967's "Wait Until Dark," one thing hasn't: her beauty. ... show more

  • Beautiful book
I purchased this for my Niece's 20th birthday. She loves the 60's and Audrey. It is her favorite book and has a nice spot on her coffee table. She asked for another one of the authors books this year! Thanks!

  • Another Great Audrey Book!
This book is filled with absolutely gorgeous photos of Audrey, and her career as an actress now in the '60s, and how she continued to be at the very top of her game! The packaging of this book was great and undamaged because it was vacuum concealed in plastic, and also came in a cardboard box filled with extra packs to protect the book. In the end, this book is going to make any Audrey Hepburn fan very happy, and another plus about this book is that it has very big pictures! ... show more
