The core (it does seem to have one) seems to be a spongy, float-y, type material (not like what you would find on stronger lines), not sure whether it is designed to carry any of the load in addition to the sheath. I mean it's light crappy rope but what the hell did you expect at this price. It works for a lead on my beast of a dog when camping and ties up the boat well but once cut make sure to put a lighter to it and melt the end so it doesn't fray.
