Description

The Atomos Ninja V 5" 4K HDMI Recording Monitor is a 5" on-camera monitor/recorder that records and plays back DCI 4K, UHD 4K, and HD video from purpose-built mini-SSDs. It features a 10-bit FRC IPS screen with a brightness of 1000 cd/m², which makes it suitable for use in both exterior and interior conditions. The AtomHDR display technology allows you to accurately monitor your log gamma footage without having to view flat, washed-out looking images or use a LUT to compress the dynamic range and color space. The monitor supports popular log formats from Sony, Canon, Panasonic, ARRI, RED, and JVC cameras. The settings only affect viewing, with recorded video remaining unaltered. Built to withstand the rigors of production, the Ninja V features an aluminum chassis and powers from a single L-series battery. Additional features include a variety of onscreen exposure analysis, framing, and focus assist tools, as well as anamorphic de-squeeze. A power supply and SSD Caddy are included with the unit. If you're getting overwhelmed trying to find an external for your camera, look no further. I tried out 2 externals before ultimately going Atomos and I can confidently say, this is the best monitor out there. I'm using this with my Sony A6300 and it really does take your video quality to the next level. I'm able to film 4k 30 fps using my setup and the quality has been cinematic. If you are going to use an external like this, make sure to get a high quality HDMI cable that can truly handle 4k. I ended up paying a lot for the Atomos HDMI cable but I have assurance I'm getting the best quality available. If you don't know about externals, these allow you to get better video recording from your cameras as they (cameras) aren't really designed for video recording. Also make sure to get a good SSD card (500gb or more). I hope this helps with anyone looking for external monitors or anyone looking to take their videography to the next level.     • Buyer Beware You won't get the SSD EVER

I purchased this bundle of the Ninja V because it included 2 batteries and most importantly, a 500 gb ssd drive. A couple of issues. 1. The ssd drive did not come with the Ninja V and batteries. I heard nothing from the seller PhoenixPhoto, so i wrote them and asked where is my drive? I received an automatic response from Amazon that said the sellers email address did not work, but that if the seller logged into their Amazon account they would receive my email. Luckily they did see it and wrote me back that the drive was backordered and I will receive it in 1 to 2 weeks. I imagine these drives are being shipped straight from China and may or may not be knock off WD drives. So I had to order an ssd drive from Amazon sso I could make sure the Ninja actually worked just encase I needed to return it. 2. I thought the battery charger did not work as after 8 hours it was still charging the battery. It took a full day to finally charge but it does show it is at 100% so hopefully it will hold a charge for a while. 3. When I went to register the Ninja V, Atomos makes you select which authorized seller you bought it from. PhoenixPhoto does not appear on the list. I am not sure if that will affect the warranty for the product, or even if this is a Ninja V knock off. It appears to be an actual Ninja V so I selected a different Amazon seller and with the unit's serial number it did register the product. So the serial number must be legit. I hope. With all of these red flags I thought about returning the unit and buying from one of the authorized sellers on the Atomos list, but I did test out the Ninja V and it works great, so for now I am keeping it. If I don't get my ssd drive though I will return it. I will update my rating if I get my ssd drive soon and if the unit doesn't have any issues as I test it out. Update 11/6/2019 Still no SSD drive. I was told a week and a half ago that they are finally back in stock and would ship one out to me. Nothing. No email, no drive, no tracking number. This is a scam. That is why this package price with the Ninja V, 500 gb ssd, and batteries looks too good to be true. It is. You will never receive the drive and without an SSD it is worthless. So you will spend extra money to get an SSD and you still have a Ninja V of questionable orgin that you cannot register with Atomos because these are not authorized sellers. Amazing product! Has really made a difference in what I can record and how I record. But to address the reviews that have said they didn’t get the hard drive included in the bundle... I too didn’t receive the hard drive. I reached out to the company via email and they promptly (within a business day) responded that they were out of stock and would ship it when new stock arrives. Which they did! I received my hard drive and all is well. Good product and a company that follows through on their promises. ... show more

The battery charger does not work, so I ordered a new one. Weird, but okay. I love the Atomos Ninja V. It is extremely nice to use my DSLR to shoot in ProRes. So many options with the device. I won't be shooting video without it. Just that damn battery charger issue makes me laugh in mild frustration. :P ... show more

    • SSD Drive comes 3 weeks later, separately
Product works great. 5/5 on the product. My issue was that the SSD didn’t come with the product. It came almost three weeks later, which was after the shoot I needed this for. I had to buy another so I could use it for the shoot, and now I have two and i only really need one.

This is a great package deal, all you need to start shooting! be aware that the SSD drive will not come in the box, it will come as a separate package, so stay alert! the Monitor is unbelievable you need to try it in person. won't go without it anymore! Feelworld seems ok but definitely they are cheaper because quality is very inferior! ... show more

Wonderful monitor, I love the features. I find myself using Focus Peak and Waveform for correcting exposure the most. I was a little disappointed when I learned it doesn’t record 120 FPS but it’s not the worst problem in the world, the rest of the features and quality of the monitor more than makes up for it ... show more

The Ninja v is fine but the whole set with batteries and hard drive is ugly. Don’t buy like this. Always look for dds mini.
