  • Better Screen makes up for bulk (MacOS M1 user)
Style: 16" IPS 120Hz USB-C L-shaped kickstand
I own both this model and the entry-level Asus model that runs around $160. The economical model uses a separated cover that folds into a triangle as a single, angled support for the monitor. It’s very mobile, but it’s my beater - the family mini-van of mobile monitors. It gets the job done, not very well, and I don’t want to be on it for too long. Stacked next to a MacBook, the resolution difference is hard to overlook. This model is bulkier with the folding stand. Twice the thickness due to the stand, but allows the user to angle it exactly how you want. The HDMI cable did NOT work with my MacBook, but the Type C cable worked fine. Apparently, not all cables work, based on some data that’s exchanged between the monitor and MacBook before it registers a display. Also comes with a USB power adapter, but the MacBook M1 powered it fine. I’m really happy I paid for this higher model. The resolution and brightness against my 15” M1 is a lot closer than the models with less resolution. It makes working on it way more enjoyable and a more cohesive, visual experience. I’d opt for the better display if you can. It comes with a soft case. I wish, like the less expensive model, it came with some type of hard protection for the screen. For now, I just put some thick cardboard in the protective pouch. By the time the soft pouch has the monitor, USB adapter, HDMI and USC cables, the pouch is at least an 1.5” thick. So assume when you travel with your laptop/Macbook, stick the accessories in there. Nevertheless, would recommend. ... show more

  • Superb portable monitor to use with a Macbook Pro
Style: 16" IPS 120Hz USB-C L-shaped kickstand
Tweak with the settings and you can get the colors very similar to the Macbook pro screen. Contrast: 91, R: 82, G: 89, B: 100 This screen is also 120hz which is basically indistinguishable from the Macbook's ProMotion. Important to note: will not support full 500 nits brightness without plugging it into the wall. However, without wall power it still works perfectly at 400 nits. There are no power shortage or flickering issues. I believe most portable external monitors reliably support 500 nits only if they are plugged into the wall. I needed the extra 100 nits so it's worth plugging it in for me, and definitely worth upgrading from my previous 400 external monitors. You may need the BetterDisplay program to set the resolution to 1920x1200, which is the closest-to-mac resolution. The design is great. The stand is compact and in the back, while most other portable external monitors have more of a mat design that unfolds then remains several inches in front of the monitor, occupying desk space, thus creating a somewhat awkward arrangement when they are slightly angled towards your laptop (your laptop basically has to rest on top of it). With this monitor, you reclaim that desk space and your workspace ultimately looks significantly less cluttered. This is a huge benefit due to its design, and should not be understated. It feels like thought was put into this monitor. When you sleep your mac, the monitors sleep as well even while plugged in. You do not have to unplug the monitors or turn them on/off each time. Finally, the monitor comes with a small carrying sleeve, where you can put it in when you are traveling. Very impressed with the quality of ASUS and highly recommend this. ... show more

  • Easy and Effective
Style: 16" IPS USB-C
I've gotten completely dependent on having a 35" monitor and my 13" laptop monitor as real estate when working. I often have three windows viewing between them. I'm much less efficient when I'm on the road and just using that 13" monitor. So I'm really excited to bring this monitor on my next trip. I'm giving 5 stars now with fully using, but unless something goes wrong with quality, I can already tell this is what I was looking for. It's compact and light enough for me to throw in luggage and even though it's long it fits in my work pack. The main negative reviews seem to be compatibility issues. But I plugged the monitor into my Lenovo X1 ThinPad USB-C port, turned on the power and my computer immediately read the monitor and set it up to extend my desktop. Picture quality seems fine, but I'm using this for documents so I'm not too concerned. Only little things I'd fix? The cover it comes with is cool, but it's like a complicated origami to set it up as a stand. There must be an easier way. Once you get it, you get it, but it took a bit of time. Also, there is a sticker on the back that left a really gummy residue. It took me a while to get that off. Maybe it was meant to be kept on there for some reason? But I hate stickers on my stuff. ... show more

  • Great but the brightness acts really weird!
Style: 16" IPS 144Hz USB-C Freesync Premium
Great monitor overall: -IPS, matte display -16.7M colors (many have only 260k) -144hz (definitely smoother) -Good stand and good overall build quality for the price -1/4" threaded mount - perfect for mounting with a tablet/camera mount --- The weird part: For some reason, the brightness would only go to 100% with ONLY ONE cable I found around my house. The cable I had was just a normal USB-A - USB-C cable (don't remember where I got it from). Tried the supplied USB-C cable: plugged into the wall outlet and my PC's USB-C ports as well but no success (brightness goes to 60% at most). Tried other cables I had laying around - 6 different cables - with/without adapters; in the wall outlet; in the USB-C port (including the one with DP mode); USB 3.2 ports - nothing worked. I'm still baffled: only one particular cable allowed me to turn the brightness up to 100% and it works from the wall outlet and even from a power bank. No other cable works. *Yes, I had the driver installed from Asus's website. All of my other drivers were up to date as well. Interesting. ... show more
