I purchased this same monitor back in February 2014 and it still works great! Been happy with it for over 8 years now. When I turn it on my older one though, recently I noticed the ASUS logo flickers for a moment but the monitor comes on perfectly as usual and still works just fine. I took this as a sign of aging so I decided to buy a backup just in case it were to stop working in the near future. I was a little nervous at first making the purchase but I just received it today and it came in the original ASUS packaging without a single scratch or any wear and tear on the corners of the box as if it was still 2014. I am very happy with my purchase and "Ideabuy" did an amazing job preserving the original box! Looks like it came directly from the ASUS warehouse. I highly recommend "Ideabuy" they take very good care of their stock.

Update on 11/26/17 - Weird ... I hadn't actually planned to re-review this product almost exactly three years to the day since the last, but I was looking through my old reviews and found this. All I can say is "Mea culpa!" The problem was with a defective HDMI cable; this monitor has been absolutely great! I would highly recommend it (or a more recent update of it). Update on 11/28/14 - Sadly, I'm now going to have to severely downgrade my review as a result of a defective HDMI port on my monitor. Of late (within the past week - less than three weeks after delivery), my monitor has developed a defective HDMI port. It doesn't matter what cord I use (I've tried a number of HDMI cords), my monitor is experiencing periodic "black outs." There is simply no way for me to adjust the input on the back of the monitor so that it has a clean, consistent connection. This is very annoying and not a quality issue I've experienced on any other monitor I've owned. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Original Review - I bought my VN279QL to replace what I thought was a dead Samsung P2770 (also a 27") monitor. It turned out only to need a new power supply on the power cord, and I'm now using the Samsung on another computer. And, the comparison between the two monitors is pretty stark. This monitor is superb, particularly at a $300 price point. I was going to buy the VN289QL, but I was concerned that the additional inch of screen size would make the 1080p resolution less sharp with minimal gain. I don't know if that's true, but I'd love to know whether it is. As it is, text is less sharp than on my Samsung monitor but not to the point of annoyance - and the greater brightness and vividness more than make up for any other shortcomings. HD movies are stunning on this monitor. The picture is extremely bright and uniform, as others have noted. I run mine at 50% brightness (in Standard mode). The controls are a little difficult to master, and the lack of a manual makes it hard to understand how to use some of the more esoteric controls (e.g., What are the Phase and Clock settings under Focus?). I'd appreciate it if someone from ASUS could post a link to documentation (Someone on Newegg said it exists, but I can't find it.) My monitor was delivered in one day, with zero defects and with extremely good build quality. The stand is much better than on my Samsung, and the adjustability is great. I can highly recommend to anyone needing a quality 1080p monitor.

I've bought two of these - one renewed, and then a brand new one because I liked it so much. While I prefer at least a 1440p screen for my primary display, these make FANTASTIC secondaries. I have one in the right for my remote desktop connections and one on the left, in portrait, for code. They are super crisp for 1080p and just work. They also have all sorts of crazy extra features, like displaying and customizing a crosshair on your screen for when you're playing games and that helps. For real, though - while I'm sure this would me more than adequate as a primary display if you want a 1080p screen that just works - they are FANTASTIC for your secondary screens. I'm honestly considering buying a third one to place above my primary monitor to play movies on. I have five screens right now, I have plenty of places to watch a movie, but these are so good that I'm considering a third one, sixth monitor total, just as an excuse to get another. If you're looking to add more monitors to your setup this is a solid choice. Also, I just noticed I say things are "solid" a lot.

I have not used this extensively for gaming, but as a secondary monitor along side a 55" phillips 7000 series it fits perfectly. Its almost exactly the same height when in tall mode. my main use for it is streaming while playing other games on my main monitor, or as a secondary workspace when I need more space on the screen for virtual TTRPG sessions. For these purposes, it has worked flawlessly. I ended up turning the brightness down on it, because 100% was too much for me. The buttons are easy and while the manual that comes with it is massive and mostly scrawled with other languages, it does tell you how to navigate the layout.
