2025 update: This drum is still my husband’s favorite drum to play. He has since purchased a Rav Vast and an additional fancy hang drum with more notes with a >2k price tag. He returns to this one over and over and it’s what he reaches for daily. He has accidentally dropped it twice now and has paid to send it to a specialist to get it re-tuned which is a pricey endeavor but he loves it that much. I purchased this for my husband for his birthday with a bit of worry and trepidation. It seemed too good to be true. He bought me a small tongue drum for my birthday 2 months ago and from there has become pretty much obsessed with this world of "zen drumming"( I don't know what to call it-lol) and things have escalated quickly with him purchasing a idiopan domina but still being consumed with the sound of hang drum. We have been looking around and they seemed pretty well out of our reach for something that is a new hobby not to mention no previous musical experience. I was pondering the larger idiopan or maybe a rav vast for his birthday but saw that Amazon had some more affordable hang drums. Most looked pretty dice-y to be honest. I started to do some research on Asteman on youtube and online and found that even though these appear to be made in China they seemed to be of good quality and handmade and even more enticing they were offering one of their drums on Prime with next day delivery. I threw caution to the wind and nervously placed my order- I mean, even though this is a "steal" compared to other hang drums it is still a pretty good chunk of change! We just had this delivered today, right on time, and were absolutely floored with the sound and beauty of this thing! My husband was immediately making the most beautiful music! The finish is much more beautiful than the photograph in my opinion and to my untrained ear sounds as lovely and resonant and harmonic as any of the expensive ones you see. They don't seem to offer any tuning other than D minor whereas the high profile companies offer all sorts of tuning variations but that is the one that is most appealing to my ear anyway and appears to be the most user friendly. All of the extras such as the bag, stand, braided cover, sticks and such are appreciated in that he has everything he needs right out of the box. Oh, and everything was perfectly packaged in a custom box. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is wanting to get one of the these drums but daunted by the price of most of them. ... show more

    • Nearly perfect tuning!

I only just received my handpan a few hours ago and I have to say I am (so far) very happy. My biggest concern of course was that the tuning would be unacceptable so the first thing I did upon pulling it out of the box was to grab my Seiko chromatic tuner and check it. Not only is the tuning acceptable, it is nearly spot on. Most notes are within 2 cents, the worst are out less than 10 cents. The highest notes can sometimes be tricky to get a good sound from but I'm sure that has more to do with my striking technique (or lack thereof). I am able to get the harmonics to sound on the ding and can even "bend" the octave harmonic. All of the notes sound fine when striking with a rubber mallet. All in all I am happy I chose this as my first handpan. ... show more

Bought this for my husband who's a professional drummer. I couldn't afford to buy the best right now due to covid and after a lot of research I found prices range from 300-2,000. This one came in at a reasonable price with a great sound. I watched reviews and videos of all levels of the handpans. Of course the highest priced instrument has the richest tones but after listening to a video demo on this one and a video demo on someone trying to retune a 300$ one, I decided the the lower price pan's just aren't worth the $. I chose this brand after watching a demo on the gold. The gold one had a sweet, long lasting ring. My husband originally chose the "black" color handpan (same model) listening to the sound demo, it had a different tone. After several weeks of research I ordered this one and I can say it was the right choice. A reasonable price for a learning instrument plus it has a warm tone that will allow him to perform solo at dining establishments once he's proficient. Don't bother with the cheaper units, you will never get the good sound you need to really learn the handpan. This handpan looks beautiful and has great sound at a reasonable price. ... show more

This is a beautiful handpan that was delivered on time and in good order. I was disappointed to hear two notes out of tune and I returned it. I encourage the purchase of the As teman handpands; try one and you may have better luck 👍🏼

I love the sound of handpans and hang drums. Since I've been sitting at home so much lately (thanks covid) I figured it would be a neat instrument to learn. However I found they can be quite expensive depending on the materials used. I decided to search for a nitride steel drum because they are generally cheaper and I am only a beginner... no need to invest the big bucks yet. In my search I came across the Asteman brand handpans and started looking Into them. The reviews were good, the price was right, they offer some neat color options and I was even able to hear the drum played on their YouTube channel. Sold! The drum is very easy to learn, really! Just start thumping on it in different ways and places and it makes a wonderful sound. I also liked that it has 10 notes; most of the other drums in this price range only had 9. The mallets are nice but I prefer using my hands. The stand is also nice but I prefer setting the drum in my lap. The case is basic but functional and protective. The color doesn't look exactly the same as what is pictured in the product listing but it is pretty and unique. Overall I am very pleased with this drum. If you are thinking about getting one I would recommend considering this brand. ... show more
