I have a lot of synths and have been using them for about 25 years. I actually didn’t keep this synth, for one reason I will explain. But in my time with this synth, I realized it is a stellar value and will offer hours of enjoyment to anyone who likes synths and especially beginners. It’s an easy to use synth that sounds good and covers a whole lot of sonic territory. It can even scratch the modular itch. I know i'm supposed to like it. I do like how the knobs are somehow firm. I like the quailty of the vocoder. I like the ease of sound design. But I don't like the capacitive keyboard, and I really dislike how plasticy it feels. I thought it wouldn't bother me. It really bothers me. I hope someday they make a version of this out of metal, and pop a little fatar keybed on it, or a microbrute crossover version would be cool. ... show more

    • Great at first
I'm starting a return and will update review as it goes. The honeymoon with the Minifreak is incredible, but as time goes on things changed. I find it lacks enough keys for my style. The sliding from white to black keys is difficult because the flats have sharp metal edges. The pitch bend is near useless as I hate the sounds it produces nearly every time. Then I realized all the sounds I was producing, even with a purchased preset pack, all sound immature, toy-like, and lacking power. As I said, hopefully the return process goes smoothly because I will be updating this review based on that experience. ... show more
