Yes, you could make your own using your arms but what would be the fun of that? This set has some cool-looking friendship bracelet ideas. I did have to turn to the internet for some questions I had about the instructions. In the end, the Grands had a wonderful time filling the basket with friendship bracelets to give away. The "machine-loom" comes in such pretty colors. Very bright. This is an excellent gift for birthdays for the little girls. The box came with everything one needed to make a big pile of bracelets with string left over. The instructions showed the basic moves and you can improvise once you get the hang of it. i remember making these friendship bracelets as a kid and I always either put them in a clipboard if one was available, or looped it around my toe. Both options were cumbersome. The strings would get tangled, the bracelet would twist, all of these things could make it more frustrating than fun and cause the final product to suffer. This cool little kit solves all of that. My kids are now at the age where they are in to making the bracelets so I got this for them. I'm pretty jealous of the convenience they have with this over my toe. It holds everything perfectly in place. It has a cool drawer to keep your strings and a hook that covers to hold your knotted end. Each string fits snugly at the other end keeping everything perfectly in place. It is a pleasure to weave on it. It's been enjoyable sharing my deeply stored knowledge of friendship bracelet making with the kids. Great little purchase. ... show more
