Works like a charm

For our puppy (she's a pugchi 11 weeks old) this was very easy for her to use since she already enjoyed going outdoors onto the grass. The moment we put it down she ran to it and has never looked back, we have no more accidents on our carpet which is awesome. My partner and I found that this was a much better alternative than having puppy pads down and it's more appealing to look at as well. As expected when an animals goes potty on any pad it is bound to smell. With that being said yes it smells bad at times but we find these grass patches to be absolutely amazing. Cleaning: To start, we line the plastic tray right under the grass patch with a small puppy pad to make cleaning easier. We use warm water to clean the dish and soak the grass pad. As an alternative to clorox (since these chemicals are terrible for dogs and humans alike) we use oxygen bleach which is much more eco-friendly and does not burn your nostrils. Overall, this product is great. I easily recommend this to everyone who has dogs and is having trouble potty training them. But you cannot expect this to work if you don't watch your dog and direct them to the pad when they're going potty. ... show more

Great for a little puppy especially in a condo or apartment situation. If you’re potty training and I have a very young puppy that can’t hold it all the way to the door this is a great item to have inside or outside. I prefer mine outside so that they learn to go outside eventually. I bought this to take on the road trip to go pick up my puppy that was four hours each way so that when we stopped at a roadside we would be able to pull it out if needed since he did not have all his shots being so young. We did not want him to pick anything up from other dogs on the ride home. We live in a downtown condo so this is perfect and very effective To learn to go outside. He’s transitioned to a larger pad now (outside). After his final shots he’ll be used to asking to go out and be somewhat familiar to what grass looks like. It does not absorb but there is enough room in the tray for the puppy to go quite a few times (depending on size of puppy and amount of elimination) before it would overflow. It is easy to sop up with paper towels or regular towels and rinse! ... show more

I live in an apartment so I keep this on my patio as my puppy’s potty. Great for potty training. Good absorbency. Kind of gross to clean the urine tray. I laid puppy pads under the grass pad to absorb the urine to make cleanup easier so that it’s not literally a tray of urine. The solid waste tends to stick to the grass pad. After two months of use the grass pad had a strong urine scent and solid waste stuck to it even after rinsing with a water hose so I threw it out. It became difficult to clean. So, I now use the tray it came with along with a puppy pad on top of it in lieu of the grass pad. Works well and my puppy still knows that is his designated potty spot. I recommend this product but you may need to buy a roll of the artificial grass if you intend to keep using it. ... show more

I have had this mat now for nearly a month and I have some mixed feelings about it... It arrived promptly and was everything I expected from reading previous reviews so I was very pleased. Training my dog to use it was pretty easy also, If she peed off the mat I put her nose in the pee told her "no" and then escorted her to the mat and made her sniff it. Now after maybe three times of doing that she understood and started using the mat and everytime she did we would celebrate so it encouraged her to keep doing it. After maybe two weeks (and I cleaned it daily sometimes twice if she peed a lot) she started peeing off the mat again and I couldn't wrap my head around why she would be doing that until one day I happened to catch her in the act and it came to me. The mat holds a urine scent even after you wash it with soap like instructed. She sniffed the mat (and this was shortly after it had been washed and dried outside) and then peed right beside it. So right then I attempted to smell the mat also and it had a dreadful stench of urine so it all made sense. After that I soaked it in bleach and water in an old bucket I had lying around and it smelled better and she went back to using it but still peed on the floor occasionally if she didn't like how it smelled. I'm going to keep trying the soaking in bleach and water and see if that will continue to take away the scent but to be honest its a pain in the behind to now have this issue with her on again /off again use of the mat. Oh and by continuously soaking the mat its starting to shed its fake strands. So my advice to anyone is the product works but only for a short time and then you are just going to have to keep replacing the grass like every two - three weeks. Dont bother

I had high hopes for this product. We recently rescued a 2 month old miniature pinscher that had been starved, physically abused, and that had been left out so long that she had frostbite. Living in the midwest, there's no way we were going to start sending her outside to do her business until after she puts on some weight and heals from the frostbite, so we started out with puppy pads all over the house, which looks terrible. I thought that this product would be a great way to make her set up more fashionable. Unfortunately, this product did not live up to my hopes. We had no problem with getting her to use it - in fact, she used it right away. We even put the puppy pad under the grass to make clean-up easier. However, a few things went terribly wrong. First of all, the grass is absorbent. That doesn't sound like a bad thing, but that means that when we washed it after use, it stayed wet until the next time. Not to mention, as we picked up the grass to clean it, it dripped pee that it had absorbed. The one time that she used it twice before we had a chance to clean it, her little paws were damp with her own urine from the precious use. Sure, it looked nice, but it was already way more work to upkeep than a pad (which just requires folding up, throwing away, and throwing a new one down). The second problem that we had was with the smell. As I already pointed out, we were in the habit of cleaning it after each use, so it wasn't just sitting around soaking. But, after about three days, it had such a strong smell of stale urine that our company commented on it and moved to a further seat. I was mortified, especially considering that we had been washing it obsessively. That was when I finally decided that I would look into other options, and this thing went in the trash. Tl/Dr - Grass drips urine when cleaning, gets water/urine on puppy's paws, and smelled bad enough (even after cleaning) that we couldn't stand it and threw it away. ... show more

Make sure you pay attention to the size when ordering --- but nice product!!

Make sure to pay attention to the size when you are ordering. I have a small dog, so the size I got works for her. But even though I KNEW the size, when I got it...I was still a little shocked that it looked so little. With that being said, I think that it's going to work well. It is exactly as pictured. My dog was a little hesitant at first about the grass, but I put her pee pad right next to it and a couple hours later she got on the grass and went poo. I was tickled and gave her lots of praise. Hope this will work better than just the pee pads - because my cat feels the need to try and "cover" the pads and then the dog can't use them...LOL (Animals...gotta love them!) ... show more

Best indoor potty option for housebroken dog

Our dog was used to doing her business in her foster family's fenced yard through a doggy door. We don't have a yard so after we adopted her that was no longer an option. We spent a few frustrating days trying to get her to pee on puppy pads but she did not like it. She only wanted to do her business outside, but we cannot afford taking her out 3-4 times a day. After reading some reviews of this product, we decided to give it a try. The first day she was not sure about the grass patch and started chewing on it, but we sprayed anti-chew on the edges of the tray and it never happened again. Starting from the second day of having this product, she did all her business on the tray and there was not a single accident! We tried moving the tray around in the room and she still found it. As the other reviewers say, this probably works best for already housebroken dogs, at least it works almost like a miracle for our dog!! It is also super easy to clean and maintain. Not puppy friendly

My puppies had this pee pad chewed apart and in shreds in less than a week. They will then swallow the little pieces of grass that are everywhere. It is not very puppy friendly.
