Description

This Traditional Irish crew neck sweater is one of Aran Crafts greatest sellers. It follows all the Traditional Irish Aran stitching patterns that have been passed down from generation to generation, which in olden days told stories of families and life in Ireland. Along the centre panel of the body the honeycomb Aran stitch flows, signifying the hard working bee or the hard work of a fisherman. On either side of this centre panelling there are rows of Irish cable Aran stitches resembling the fishermans ropes, the link to life. This jumper tells a story through Irish knitting.

The color was exactly as pictured! The fit is accurate. The workmanship is very high quality. It is absolutely lovely. The Merino wool is soft and doesn't scratch or itch (but I've never had problems with that anyway). It's light weight enough that you can wear it indoors, but it's warm enough to wear outdoors on a cold day. The wool and the weave breathe, but are also warm. Love it! My husband also really likes the one I bought for him (different color, but also as pictured). Very, very nice.     • My new favorite sweater
This was a gift that has become my favorite casual, at-home snuggler. Itchy/scratchiness - It IS Merino wool, however it is NOT the same as the "Merino" wool you may be used to from brands like Smartwool. Those brands use a yarn that either contains nylon or uses very recent technology to spiral fluffy fibers around a stronger core. This is more traditional yarn, just using a very high quality of fiber. The result is a 8/10 on the itchy-scratchy scale in the entire universe of Wool products. I personally LOVE the texture, and find it feels more natural, real, and authentic than hyper-modern yarns. But if you are a sensitive person who thinks merino = smartwool, you may be disappointed. The knit is loose and elastic. This means that it is very warm under a shell, but as an outer layer a breeze will regulate that extra heat. The elasticicty of the links(?) in the wrists, collar, and cables is pretty much perfect, and unlike any other kind of weave you'd find on a more sweatshirty fabric. Buy it. Love it. ... show more

Most every Saturday for the last 5 years I'd wear a beat-up old sweater, my "Saturday Sweater". Imagine my dismay when, a couple months ago, my wife told me that one of the three of us (the Sweater, me, or her) had to go. I pointed out that the Sweater was a real step up from my previous piece of guy security clothing (a bright orange fleece pull-over) which she made me get rid of after about 10 years of regular weekend use. Well, she didn't make me get rid of it. She helped me see that I needed to get rid of it. In any case, in response to my effort to save the Saturday Sweater, she just glared at which point I hopefully indicated I washed the Sweater at least once a year whether it needed washing or not. More glaring. So, there I was, sweaterless and depressed. But then I was lucky enough to purchase this Merino Crew Neck Sweater in green. A great garment. On the hefty side of a middle weight sweater with very good material and craftsmanship. A friend who knits quite a bit was in awe. I ordered my usual size (XL) and it fits with no room to spare.
