Description

When the walls are glass, there's nowhere to hide. No sooner has Detective Erin O’Reilly moved in with her lover, gangster-turned-informant Morton Carlyle, than she gets a call about a body in a fancy downtown hotel. She’s expecting a run-of-the-mill homicide, until she finds herself face to face with a beautiful young woman floating in the hotel’s aquarium. Below the smooth surface of the luxury hotel, she finds a rotten world of bribes, voyeurism, coercion, and murder. Everybody has something to hide. Erin and her faithful K-9 Rolf will have to plunge into the murky depths to hook their quarry. Meanwhile, her personal life is on a fine line between survival and disaster. With all eyes on her, she will have to balance her family, her job, and her increasingly dangerous double life infiltrating the O’Malley mob. It’s a deep dive into another New York murder. It’ll take all Erin’s grit to pull the truth out into the light. Read more

  • ... Erin's "personal life is on a fine line between survival and disaster." ...
Carlyle has finally been released from the hospital and has returned to the Barley Corner. Erin has moved in with Carlyle and they are living double lives, but no one else is aware of it. The bad guys all think of Erin is on their side, but she is gathering information. Should anyone find out what Carlyle and Erin are up to, the Irish mob will really prove how dangerous they are... Erin and Rolf get a call to go to one of New York's most luxurious hotels, the InterContinental where the body of a dead woman is found floating in the hotel's huge aquarium located in a ballroom. Lieutenant Webb and Vic are already there when Erin and Rolf arrive. Is it murder? Or is it suicide? That is something the Major Case squad will have to figure out for themselves in order to close the case... In the meantime, Erin will have to split her time between Carlyle, the job and her family (who are determined to meet Carlyle)... The investigation at the hotel uncovers more than expected... Erin has an unanticipated meeting... The last person she would think she would ever see at the Barley Corner unexpectedly shows up — and Erin learns something important about the pub's regular patrons... Aquarium is another-fast paced mystery by Steven Henry. I watched as the Major Case squad tried to solve the murder of the girl found floating in the aquarium. As each new clue came to light, I would examine it carefully alongside the detectives. After a couple of wrong guesses on my part, I just decided to let the story be told and enjoy the entertainment. Several times, I caught myself holding my breath and on the edge of my seat. I could not read fast enough, the twists, turns and surprises left me wondering what could possibly happen next. I did not figure this one out in advance, it was everything I love about an excellent mystery... AfterThought: The Devil You Know is up next... ... show more

  • Marvelous Read.
Once again, the book took me to a place not so far away, but so far from my world that I could submerge myself in the lives of the characters. Thank you Steven for your brilliant mind that have me this alternate place to land and be a bystander. I read it too fast and now have to wait for the next chapter. ... show more

  • Impossible mystery. Page turner.
Started to read one evening and couldn't put it down. I'm going to read it again, slower. I was so into the plot and couldn't wait to see what came next that I was speed reading. I'm sure I missed some occurances so this time I'm slowing down.
