  • Well made
Style: Alto
Great starred instrument, but not chintzy at all. Smooth and solid, case is even very sturdy and well done

  • Playable
Style: Alto
I am homeschooling my kids and want to provide them with a variety of instruments so they can pick which they would like to learn. Obviously the saxophone is a popular instrument, and I've read that the auto size is the easiest to play, so I decided to get this. I do not play the saxophone and this is my first one. However I used to play the clarinet, so this is not too far outside of what I know. I was impressed with the case it comes with. It's nice, padded, and semi-solid. It has bumpers on a long side and on a short side so you can stand it how you want. It also has handles on both sides. However, I was disappointed that it appears mine was a return as the bulk of the saxophone was unwrapped, and the box it came in was also cut open. There was a note that said "acid bleed neck" however I can't tell if anything about it is defective... it seems okay to me. I take everything out and piece it together. It only comes with one reed, but that's okay. I go to play it and find that it does take a bit of lung power, but it's playable. When I have a note held I can get what seems like a good sound, but often if I don't have anything open it will squeal. That's likely because I have no experience with the saxophone and I won't blame the instrument for that. It does not have an expensive or high quality feel to it. Sometimes with instruments they just do, and this one does not have that charm. But it seems totally playable for a beginner to learn on. I'm happy with it and hope one of my kids will get a lot of use out of it when they are ready. ... show more

  • Beautiful instrument, perfect for students! Why rent?
Style: Alto
When you consider the price of renting an instrument for your student, or even buying second hand, this Apollo Alto Saxophone makes a lot of sense. It is very reasonably priced and you are getting a brand new instrument and not inheriting someone else's problems. The quality of this instrument is very fair for the price. It feels like a well made piece, weighty and solid! This is no tin horn! The sound is comparable to other saxophones in the school band too. My daughter is an accomplished clarinet and bass clarinet player who has expressed interest in learning the saxophone as well. After investing heavily in her clarinets, it was a pleasure to find this Apollo Alto Saxophone at such a great value. Everything you need is included! This comes with a reed, cleaning kit, neck strap and backpack style case. Such a smart design on the case too, kids have so much to carry, being able to put your case on your back is one less thing in your hands and makes navigating the school hallway a little easier. There is a beautiful floral pattern etched into the bell and mother of pearl keys that make this saxophone really stand out and sort of elevates it above the rest of the band. Bottom line, for an entry level student instrument, this Apollo Alto Saxophone is hard to beat! Considering the quality of the instrument and all that it comes with, it just makes sense! ... show more

  • Great Band Instrument!!! Exceptional craftsmanship too…
Style: Alto
The media could not be loaded. My son has used this for a for the first year of High School Band. It has held up extremely well and has no issues to speak of. It still looks as good as it plays too. It hasn’t tarnished and all the keys and valves work flawlessly. The case is exceptionally nice and rugged. It provides a lot of protection without taking up more space than needed. Exceptional craftsmanship!!! Very pleased with this Sax!!! Trust you found this review honest and helpful:-) ... show more

  • Rich tones and very well made
Style: Alto
As a life-long musician, I've always purchased my instruments in person and with much care. So, buying online was a step, which I wasn't sure was a good idea. I had no reason to be so doubtful. This is a very, lovely instrument, picked up for my teen daughter, who is learning to play. The delivery was extremely speedy and arrived in perfect condition. The saxophone came in the case and was well-protected. The case already has a great quality (I was impressed) and will serve its purpose to store and transport the instrument well. The saxophone snuggles right in and there are extra, padded areas for the accessories. The entire thing this well cushioned, the zippers are robust, the carry handles are well-crafted, and the extra pocket on the front even fits sheet music. The saxophone came with one reed, cork grease, and a neck band, which fits well and can easily be adjusted. Now, to the saxophone. It's simply a very nice saxophone. The craftmanship is very good, allowing each valve to operate smoothly and easily. The tones come out clear and rich...honestly, I didn't expect that either. Everything fits snuggly together as it should. It's more than good enough from my daughter to learn on, and I expect this one will follow her for many years to come. ... show more
