  • AOC e1659Fwu and AOC I1659FWUX. Great thin, light, USB monitors. Mild negatives.
Size: 15.6 inch | Full HD Style: USB 3.0
The 16" , 1366 x 768 USB monitor (AOC e1659Fwu) has been great for years now. It is thin, included a neoprene sleeve cover and the stand works well. I HIGHLY recommend these monitors as when I go to site for service or travel for work, I have a second screen to allow active work on one screen, a procedure, email or remote screen on the other.... whatever. This monitor has lower resolution, so I have to shrink some things to fit or move them around. Windows allows reduction on this extended screen too. The AOC monitor displays pictures, text and movies perfectly. So, I purchased the AOC I1659FWUX 15.6", 1920 x 1080 HD USB monitor to replace it (I use the original on my personal laptop now) and fit more on the screen though slightly smaller physically. My laptop is 15.6" and both fit in the laptop bag side by side. I never travel for work without the monitor with me. This model has a USB A to USB A 3.0 cable and is not as delicate as the one I described above, though I am adding my hooks to protect it anyway. It works well with a USB A to USB C adapter. Great picture with HD resolution. The negatives. * The neoprene sleeve, though soft, provides NO protection from impact to the screen in transport. Many complaints about that. I use the original cardboard sheet sized the same as the monitor from the original box over the screen in the sleeve. I am creating something a little better abrasion free. I use this in hotels and in computer rooms, so it does get moved around a lot, pulled out and put away. * The USB cable. You can use USB C or USB A (USB 3.0) for laptop/PC end. The included cable is stiff and I replaced it with more flexible and shorter (2ft) fabric sleeved cables to carry (USB A and USB C ends for laptop). Amazon has tons of options here. I posted a pic of the micro USB male charging cable used for the monitor interface on the 16" model. The 15.6" model uses a standard USB A male connecter at the back. * The connector on the monitor. Everyone's biggest complaint as there is no protection from pulling the cable out sideways and damaging the interface connector. I posted pics of a simple solution I created using small 3M Command stick-on hooks. I can weave the cable around the three hooks, then slide it into the connector. Removes ALL of the stress from side movement and saves the monitor from the recycler or trash. Easy to remove. Allows movement without worry. Anything like a velcro strap or a clip fastened to the back to prevent pulling out will work. The negatives are easy and inexpensive to fix to prevent damage. Do NOT let these issues prevent considering the purchase of these monitors. The cardboard comes with the package, the 3M hooks cheap and the flexible, shorter cable, under $8 from Amazon and years of trouble-free use. An excellent option with AOC reliability. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 ONLY for having to do things to prevent damage that should have been considered in the design and testing of these really great monitors. 11/7/22. I had to update to 5 stars as I just can't get around using either of the monitors and have been undeniably reliable despite the negatives. Take the precautions I outlined and a long useful life is expected. I have one for each personal and work use and don't go anywhere without them. Recommended to friends who have purchased too. The newest one in HD has been OUTSTANDING. ... show more

  • Just about perfect
Size: 15.6 inch | Full HD Style: USB 3.0
The comments in the reviews about the cables and connections are all over the map and failing to mention model numbers. There are THREE different variations of this display, so reviewers need to be specific about what they bought. I bought the I1659FWUX, the 1080p model, in November 2022. This variation has a USB 3.0 type A port on the back. (This is not to be confused with the I1601FWUX model which has a USB C port.) The I1659FWUX comes with a cable that has male USB 3.0 type A on both ends, plus one end has a USB type A male pigtail for tapping into additional USB power if the primary connection doesn't have enough. My primary monitor is also a USB 3.0 hub. I have the I1659FWUX connected to that hub, and it appears to be getting plenty of power that way. I've had some other devices not happy with the amount of power delivery through this hub, so my impression is that the I1659FWUX has somewhat low power demands. On Windows 11, I think your best bet is not to install any of the drivers or utility software for this monitor. As it turns out, Windows 11 can detect it and run it just fine with no 3rd party drivers or software. All of the display settings available in Windows 11 for displays work with this monitor. When first detected, Windows 11 wanted to apply 125% scaling to the display. I changed it back to 100% for native scaling. However, 125% was certainly easier on the eyes and I may consider going back to it. There's not a lot to say. This thing just works. It is a fantastic size if you want to put a single app on a second monitor and get it off your main display. I'm primarily using it for Spotify (which I use throughout the workday) or for Teams or Zoom when I'm video conferences. I have the display connected to a desk clamp monitor arm using the vesa mount. It is above my primary display. The 1080p I1659FWUX model has an IPS display while the 1366x768 model is listed as having a lower quality TN panel. I can't see any reason to go for the 1366x768 model these days. It's not worth the $25 savings over the I1659FWUX. I'm not using this monitor for photo editing or anything color critical, so I haven't bothered checking dynamic range or anything like that. Without any picky analysis, it is nice crisp, bright, colorful display. It doesn't jump out at me as being much different in character from my primary IPS display (which IS calibrated). If you've got a use case for a second monitor of this size, you won't be sorry. Having it work from a single USB cable with no other wires is fantastic. ... show more

  • Great Travel Monitor but Only for Three Years
Size: 15.6 inch | Full HD Style: USB-C (DP-Alt)
I purchased this monitor in August 2019 as part of my traveling office set up. It is light weight and only requires one cord for the power and display. I've used it on more than three computers now between my work and personal computers. It's a "plug and play" device requiring no software download to use. I WOULD give this monitor five stars for the aforementioned reasons EXCEPT that I have had to replace this monitor annually. Yes, meaning that over the course of three years, I have had three replacements or FOUR total monitors. After about a year, the monitor will no longer display and instead present a "no signal" message then power off. This is with the exact same setup (same computer, same USB-C cord) that it previously worked with. The good news is, in 2019 it came with a three-year warranty. So, I've been able to replace the device without issue. Very easy process, great customer service. The bad news is, that three-year warranty starts on the original date of purchased and does not extend to new replaced monitors. So, here I am, three years later SOL with a broken monitor, which broke annually. This predicament was inevitable. ... show more
