Description

The present volume reproduces — directly from an authoritative Russian edition — the famous cycle of solo piano works that comprises a summa of Liszt's pianistic achievement, representing the maturation of his style over a period of decades. The Années de Pèlerinage (Years of Pilgrimage) consists of the Première Année(Suisse); DeuxiemeAnnée (Italie) — including the formidable "Après une lecture du Dante" — and its supplement, Venezia e Napoli; and Troisième Année. Also included in this volume are a number of related pieces: "Lyon," from Album d'un voyageur; the three pieces called Apparitions; the original version of Venezia e Napoli. In addition, new English translations of the Russian footnotes and of the editor's preface have been provided. Printed in a sturdy, attractive, and inexpensive format, this rich cycle of masterly works for solo piano belongs in the library of every serious pianist or music lover. Read more

  • Large pages, Lays Flat
Format: Paperback
These are big pages and they lie flat with very little effort. The font can be small in the pyrotechnical passages but it's Liszt, what do you expect? Some of the plates were fuzzy and those are reproduced as is here. Overall though this is an excellent edition. It took Liszt a lifetime to write these, they're some of his most personal works. I think the binding will last for life which is good because that's how long it'll take me to learn these! ... show more

  • Three years of pilgrimage in one book!
Format: Paperback
It's my first book with Dover Publications. Some people recomended me. It is very important that the preface in the translation has been maintained, and at the same time it is good to know Liszt's notes regarding some of his works. On the other hand, I think it is one of the only editions where you can find the three books of "Years of Pilgrimage" in one. I will have to get used to the yellowish color of its pages. ... show more

  • Gets the Job done
Format: Paperback
Perhaps not the best edition out there, but you certainly do get a lot of music on one volume. The typeface is pretty crappy and unsightly, but if you're on a budget, then it's good enough.

  • Complete pieces at a discount!
Format: Paperback
Has the complete sets of Years of Pilgramage with all supplements. Print is small, but the edition is excellent, and to purchase these pieces separately could cost 10 times the cost of this product.

  • Excellent addition to your piano repertoire
Format: Paperback
A very concise collection of these compositions. Font is easy to read and the book stays open. I was pleased with this purchase.

  • High quality edition.
Format: Paperback
One of the greatest works for piano solo. Dover edition is an excellent quality reprinting of the Moscow edition.

  • Years of Pilgrimage
Format: Paperback
The title of this work translates to 'Years Of Pilgrimage', and it is broken down into 3 books: Book one, Switzerland ; Book Two, Italy; Book Three There are also various other pieces and variants of pieces that are in the main three books. This is all in one volume, a tremendous amount of music for the price. The pieces range from fairly simple to incredibly complex. In one volume, the artistry and genius of Liszt is showcased. The printing is good, the book lies flat on the piano. If you want an inexpensive but excellent introduction to the piano music of Liszt, then this volume is for you. Recommended. ... show more
