  • Darn near perfect for travel.
Color: Black
I'm a big fan of Anker products, and this is among their best. If you need a travel charger or a portable battery backup, this is a no-brainer. First, the power plug is integrated into the unit, making it no larger than your typical electronics charger but this one has a battery. It is the perfect power bank for those suitcases which have a pocket to keep such a power supply handy and allow you to plug in your devices externally into a plug in the suitcase itself. Also, it charges other devices at a pretty fast rate. I had this plugged into a Nintendo Switch for a 3-hour flight and it kept the Switch fully topped off (but effectively drained the power bank) for the duration. Given the Switch is a bit of a power hog, that's pretty impressive. All you have to do is plug the PowerCore into an outlet and let it charge back up once you get to the hotel or even an airport. It has two USB ports for charging other devices. The PowerCore seems a little slow to charge when plugged into the wall, though it's hard to tell as there are only three blue LED indicators to judge the charge level from. Leaving it plugged into a wall outlet for 45 minutes when down to a single LED did add another LED's worth of charge to the indicator (I was waiting in an airport for a connecting flight). It functions well as a wall charger for phones, tablets, game systems, etc. However, it cannot charge both itself and your devices at the same time. It will prioritize charging your devices until they are fully charged then will switch to charging its internal battery. This isn't normally an issue if you can plug it in overnight at the hotel, but could add time overall. It can also be charged via micro-USB on the front (from a laptop, etc.), but this smaller port is input only. I wish for only a few slight updates which may come in later models. First, I'd love for it to charge from the wall both the internal battery AND the external devices (e.g., my iPhone and iPad) simultaneously. Second, it'd be nice if there were more than two output charging USB ports. Third, I wish there were some sort of built-in cable storage on the outside of the case (not unlike how MacBook power supplies have flip-out hooks to wrap the cable around) so as to keep the charging cables tidy. The unit itself is so sleek and self-contained it ought to help with the cable tangle issues, too. Overall, though, this is a must-have travel charger and power bank all in one. ... show more

  • Great quality portable charger
Color: Black
I purchased the Anker Fusion 5000 to full charge my cell phone. My phone is the Motorola Z Play Droid. The first time I used the Anker I started charging my phone when it was at 30%. The Anker automatically started to charge my phone when it got connected to the phone itself. The button is not really needed to start charging. I honestly believe the button is there to press and check how much charge is left in the power bank, and that’s about the only reason why it is there. The Anker charges about 1% of the cell phone every 2 minutes so it is not very fast but very consistent (even when the cell phone is being used while charging it is the same percentage to minute ratio). The Anker goes from fully charged to medium charged (3 dots to 2 dots) in 30 minutes of charging the cell phone. It didn’t produce any heat whatsoever on the charger or the phone. It’s quite heavy (this is expected since it has the outlet option designed into it) but that also makes it feel very robust and high quality. This power bank is not exactly for people looking for a small and light power bank. The lighted dots only seem to turn on when it is charging, being charged, or when the button is pressed. The Anker is only good for one full charge if cell phone is at 0-5%. This was expected since my phone has a battery that is about 3100 mAh and using the rule of thumb on power banks (the real charge is only about 2/3 of the rated mAh charge of the power bank) the Anker has a bit more than enough to full charge my phone. Once the Anker is depleted (1 dot is blinking) then it takes about 3.5 hours to fully charge it again (3 dots being solidly lit) from the outlet option. In conclusion, I wanted to compare and contrast my previous experience with various power banks to this Anker product. First point, you need to have a quality brand to provide you with a power bank that has the outlet option to charge itself. Anker is that quality brand. Second point, the price for this Anker power bank is reasonable giving that it is a quality product that I don’t see how it will fail me any time soon. Third point, the product doesn’t need any other feature to do what it is supposed to do. Most of the quality products that are in electronics have a trend, and that is to keep things simple. Besides the batteries that are inside having the ability to malfunction I don’t see any other weaknesses that the Anker power bank may have. Fourth, their customer service has been excellent from multiple sources. I have no doubt that Anker would replace my product if it malfunctions due to its own design within the warranty period. That is very reassuring. Am I planning to purchase another type of power bank? Absolutely. Am I going to purchase only Anker power banks from now on? Absolutely. 2022 Update. The batteries in this portable power bank has been almost completey drained for a few months now. I am not sure how many times I have used it but it surprised me that it didn't last longer. For now it is used as a powering station for two devices. As a power bank it could still be used but I would say only for about 5-10% of a cell phone. ... show more
