I grabbed the 2 oz Happy Belly crushed red pepper to keep on my spice rack, and it’s quickly become my go-to. The flakes have a nice spicy kick—warm and pungent without being overpowering—which is perfect for adding to pasta, soups, or pizza. The color is bright, almost a deep red-purple, which feels fresher than some other generic brands I’ve tried. It’s a great value: the jar is the right size for regular use, and the price is low enough that I don’t feel guilty sprinkling generously. I’ve used it on everything from barbecue sauces to scrambled eggs, and it always brings a noticeable punch. A couple of things to know: the heat level is mild-to-medium—not scorching. If you’re used to really fiery flakes, it might seem tame. Also, sometimes if the flakes settle unevenly, the first few dashes can be lighter, but shaking usually fixes that.
