  • True Comparison of 4 Brands
Size: Multiple Style: 12-Pack
I bought these plus 3 other brands to see which ones worked best for storing a literal mountain of bedding. I tried Amazon Basics, Vacwell, Accenter, and the actual Space Saver bags. Here's how it went: AMAZON BASICS: bags are good size, but that's where the pros stop. First it's really annoying that they fold the bags with the size indicator on the innermost surface. Since they're all folded into small squares, this means you have to completely unfold the bags to see their size. The slides to close the zipper don't grip well, leave air gaps in the zipper, and constantly fall off because the stop at each end is too flat and doesn't work. Caps are hard to put back on, threading crooked on most attempts, especially if the valve ring sinks in when the bag seals; when they do go on wrong they push on the foam gasket and let air back in. WORST CON: out of 12 bags, used correctly, sealed completely, and not overfilled, all but 2 puffed back up at least partially overnight, and several reinflated entirely within an hour. I could not find any holes, cuts, or damage; they just don't stay airtight. BOTTOM LINE: good size, thick plastic, but doesn't matter if it can't hold a seal. GENERAL COMPARISON: All 4 brands had some static, like most plastic or vinyl bags. The sliding clips need improvement on all 4 brands, and I got a better result just closing the zippers with my fingers like a big Ziploc bag. The sizes were good on all 4 brands, and I have king size down comforters sealed in jumbo bags from all but the Amazon brand, because it kept reinflating. I had to take that one out and put it in a Vacwell I had left over. I used my vacuum, so did not try out the pumps from any of the brands. They all look like basic, cheap plastic pumps that would do for travel. With the Amazon bags you'll need it, because you'll be constantly pulling air back out of your bags. SPACE SAVER: Of the 4 brands I tried, the Space Savers were the only ones that had zero air leaks two days later. GUARANTEE: Space Saver also claims to offer a lifetime guarantee, stating that if any bag reinflates or doesn't keep its seal, they replace it for free on their website. I don't know if they really honor that, but they are the only ones to even offer it that I saw. If it's legit, that alone is probably worth what I paid for the brand. The caps on the Space Savers go on very easily; you can literally drop it onto the threads, give it a spin, and it basically closes itself. This is because the caps are small and only cover the center part of the sealing ring; two of the other brands have caps that have to go over the entire sealing ring so they have to line up just right, which can be tricky once the bag is wrinkly from being vacuum sealed (see pics). The Space Saver clips work okay and stay on a little better, but still go past the stops way too easy and fall off. Again, I found ordinary fingers to be more effective, and I can actually feel if there are any open places. BOTTOM LINE: If you aren't looking for long term storage or lots of re-uses, the Vacwell and Accenter brands (also on Amazon) were average performers and a little cheaper, so they'll probably work for travel or temporary jobs. If you're looking to store linens or clothing for whole seasons or years, or use them for sheets and will be opening and resealing them often, my money is (literally) on Space Saver because of their tight seal, easy-close caps, and reinflation guarantee. I wish I'd done this sooner and can't express how awesome vacuum bags are to overhaul crowded closets, maximize tight spaces, and bring order to chaos. Sadly I can't recommend the Amazon Basics at all since they just can't seem to keep the air out. Pictured is 19 (you read that right, go ahead and count them!) complete queen size sheet sets with their pillowcases (bag size SMALL), 9 king size duvet cover sets with their shams (also fit in the SMALL) and 6 sets of extra pillowcases (all in one small). These were crammed into any available spot in 3 bedrooms and my laundry room, and now fit in one tiny hall closet with enough wiggle room to make it easy getting them in and out. I used the medium and large bags for winter blankets, and the jumbo for my massive comforters. These things are truly game changing, especially if you're short on storage space. *I bought these items with my own money, no discounts, and my review is honest and unsolicited. ... show more

  • Work great
Size: Large Style: 5-Pack
I live in a small space and constantly have to figure out space for clothes (I admit I love clothes and rarely like wearing the same things twice). However, with winter clothes in the southwest… they just take up so much closet space. Seriously, these bags were great. I bought the Large and fit about 30 items of clothing and 3 large blankets into 4 of them. I have one bag left over. The hand pump worked fine, though you’ll get a workout. I didn’t have a vacuum extension that fit the seal. Either way, great value and solid product. I will likely order again in future! ... show more

  • You may not need the pump
Size: Large Style: 5-Pack
One of the negative comments that you see in the reviews for these is that it takes a long time to pump out the air using the included hand pump. However, you can make it FAR faster: 1) Tightly roll the item(s) before putting them in the bag. 2) Squeeze out as much air as you can before zipping the closure. 3) Use the included clip and squeeze it tightly while zipping—don't rely on your fingers alone to get a good seal. It DOES make a difference. 4) Here's the biggie: remove the blue cap on the exhaust port (but NOT the pink one-way valve, of course). 5) Sit-kneel-whatever on the bag to remove more air. The pump does not have to be attached for the one-way valve to function. Depending on the shape of the item, you should be able to get out almost all of the remaining air this way. Then, put the blue cap back on. 6) Finally, use the (admittedly slow) pump for a few strokes if you still feel the need to get out the last few milliliters of air. After trying it both ways, I doubt that I'll bother carrying the pump while traveling. Even if there's a little air left, if you aren't carrying a truckload of these bags then the total volume of that remaining air in all of your bags should be much less than the volume of the pump. And, you'll skip the extra weight. My wife & I are about to go on a trip to the arctic circle, and will be taking very bulky coats. I put both coats in one large bag and used the technique described above. Although the bag itself adds some bulk, the result using our coats is vastly more compact than anything else I'd managed (using packing cubes and/or straps). Will it hold the vacuum? At the moment it has been about an hour since I packed them and I'm not seeing a problem. f it goes bad after 24 hours, I'll amend this review. But, I think user error is more likely than an actual flaw in the bags (when they're new, at least). BTW, keep the bag as flat (or maybe round) as you can (put it on a hard surface like the floor, not a soft one such as your bed) while squeezing/pumping out the air. After the air is gone your nice, soft clothes are going to be as hard as a rock, and if the bag is irregular in shape it's going to be more difficult to pack it into your luggage. Finally, to the (thankfully) few people who complain that this doesn't make the items lighter—surely you do not actually believe that squeezing the air out of something should decrease its weight?! ... show more

  • Just buy these already!!!
Size: Multiple Style: 12-Pack
Amazing! Life changing… I would vacuum seal anything and everything if I could. So convenient and easy to use with the hand pump feature or I use the hose on my vacuum if it’s a jumbo bag. These bags are heavy duty, not flimsy. The seal is fantastic!!!! I definitely think you should buy them because I love them! I use them for off season clothing, blankets, comforters, storage, moving, etc. they are so handy to have! ... show more

  • I was expecting less
Size: Medium Style: 5-Pack
Ok, I'm impressed. When I got these bags, I was thinking probably cheap but hey its just a storage bag. Well, this product surprised me. I got out the cheap looking plastic pump and the bags. I packed up some clothes I really don't wear any longer, and commenced to pumping the air out of the bag. I just had no confidence the little pump would actually be strong enough to really get all the air out. I was wrong. That little pump pulled the bag down so tight it felt like a brick when I was done. It compacted the @#$ (you know what) out of the clothing. Truly I was impressed. I would recommend the product. ... show more

  • Great set
Size: Multiple Style: 12-Pack
The bags are strong, and the hand pump works great!! Filled a bag right away to test the pump. Takes a little effort, but not much! Will likely buy again if I need them!
