I have a few fountain pens, some cheap, others expensive (to my sensibilities, anyway). This pen has popped up regularly while I've been surfing Amazon for pens, but I've always ignored it because...an Amazon-branded pen? I saw the fine nib on sale for $8 and decided to give it a shot, branding aside. What a pleasant surprise! This is not a luxury pen or status symbol, for sure. What it is: a utilitarian pen, to be carried and used without a second thought. There's no white flower on top that makes you seem like you're trying too hard. It's black lacquer over metal, which gives it a substantial feel in-hand and should be fairly durable. The steel nib is unadorned except for the nib size, indicated by F. It is one of the smoothest steel nibs I've used. Feed seems just right, neither too wet nor too dry. The section is also metal, but it's chrome plated. I don't typically like smooth grip sections, but this one doesn't seem to be an issue. I prefer to use this pen unposted, but it does post securely if that's your preference. It comes with three short ink cartridges, which I've set aside for travel. Instead, I had a spare Schmidt converter lying around and it fits securely. Inked up with my go-to black, Noodler's X-Feather, it writes perfectly well. That isn't damning with faint praise. This is a utility pen, and in that role it is superb. Recommended highly if that's what you need. I also recommend getting a Schmidt (K5) converter with it so you can use bottled fountain pen ink. ... show more

Con: Getting ink cartridge put in was a little annoying - I'm new to this type of thing. Pro: I would add more cons, but I'm new to using the pen, and the more I've used it, the more I realized it was user failure. It's very novel as someone who has never had the pleasure of using this sort of pen. It also happens to fit right in to my writing style (a blend of standard and cursive.) The pen is also very simple and elegant in it's aesthetic and use. Also, in very happy that it doesn't have "Amazon Basics" painted on the side of it, lol. ... show more

BLUF: I like this pen, feels good in the hand and is a great value. I had seen several reviews for this pen, and figured worst case I'm out 2 lattes. Turns out that it's substancial in the hand due to the brass body. I've always prefered a heaver pen, it tends to smooth out my writing. The cap clicks on with a reassuring feel and sound. With the cap off the pen is more than functional in my small - medium hand for a quick note or signature. It does feel a bit tip heavy and wouldn't care to do an extended spell writing with it unposted. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, just not quite right for me With the cap posted however it feels just how I like, it's hard to explain, but you know the feeling when it's just right. The one thing I'm not stoked about is the grip. It tapers steeply down without any groving or checking to get a little traction. There is a small ring at the tip that kee\s mt from sliding off. I think that if I make a small adjustment in my grip I would have no problems however. My recommendation is if your looking for a solid basic pen, something that won't crush your soul if it got lost or damaged, a good EDC pen for not much more than a throw away one, this is a good deal. ... show more

I have bought 3 of these pens. 2 F point, and one M. I am reviewing this singular pen because it is the most expensive of the group. The F points are excellent. Excellent value for the money, write well. Good pen. Takes International style ink cartridges or converters, so you can use other inks as well. Smooth, consistent inkflow, I highly recommend those. This one? It leaked. Tried different cartridges, they are leaking from within the nib assembly, but not dripping onto the page. I got a refund, but was disappointed. I didn't have to return it, (I did get it on sale, so the price was nearly the same as the F nibs) so that was a plus. Keeping it, I was able to experiment and discover the hidden gems of these pens. You can disassemble them, and find compatible higher rated parts. The nibs, go gold, or rhodium, or whatever. A lot cheaper to buy a nib than a whole body. Ink delivery system pulls out of the barrel, so you can replace that too. This makes it an excellent stealth pen. No one will want to steal your "amazon basics fountain pen", unless you tell them of the improvements under the hood. I am using the M body to hold any and all extra nibs I buy and accumulate. Overall, good job in the bringing to market a good sub $10 pen (the F, and the M on sale). Great entry level pen for those who we wish to convert. ... show more

There is a lot about this pen that I like; cheap ($9), uses cheap and easily acquired ink cartridges, has a good feel to it and looks nice but not fancy. However, there is a major downside to this pen, it is not that smooth of a writer and you will get ink blots if you don't pay attention while writing. It's not a terrible pen that will leave ink everywhere but you won't be signing any Constitutions with it. If you are new to the world of Fountain Pens and you don't know if you should get one, then get this one. While it is not perfect, you can't beat the price. It's a great way to get introduced to the world of Fountain Pens and when you are ready to upgrade or forget about the world of Fountain Pens, then you won't be out more than $9. I bought mine a few months ago and I am ready to upgrade to something much nicer and very glad that I got introduced to Fountain Pens with this pen. Also, don't buy this pen when the price is above $10 since there are better choices at the $20 price point. ... show more
