I have an older monitor (Dell U2412M) as my secondary display, and I had it connected with a DP to DP cable. I worked fine most of the time, but when the PC would wake up or boot up, the handshake between the GeForce 4070 Super and this monitor would often fail and it would go into VGA mode, LOL. I could reset it by unplugging and re-plugging the DP cable, but that was a pain. The monitor doesn't have HDMI (?!?), so I bought this cable and plug the HDMI end into my graphics card and the DVI end into my monitor, which has completely (as least for the past several weeks) solved the handshake issue. ... show more

How curious, how strangely endearing, this slender Amazon Basics HDMI to DVI adapter cable—an unassuming creature that nevertheless performs its quiet miracles with the poise of a well-trained butterfly. I confess, I approached it first with the mild disdain one reserves for utilitarian things: cables, adapters, those serpentine intermediaries between intention and illumination. Yet, upon slipping its modest metal tongue into the waiting port, there blossomed—instantly—a pristine image, sharp as a frost-edged petal and utterly obedient to my whims. There is a soft satisfaction in watching old and new machines converse, each speaking in its own archaic or modern dialect, and this cable serving as the interpreter—a little polyglot of electrons. It does not tangle easily, nor does it pout with loose connections or flickering treacheries. It simply works, as if delighted to please. And yet, I grant only four stars. Why?
