  • Amazon stands behind their products

Ordered the unit initially and it came in with some minor issues. Replacement was sent out and works fine. Good value for the money.

  • Solid Performance; Not Without Issues
Size: QWERTY Layout
This is a solid, well-performing wireless keyboard and mouse set. It connects via USB-RF and is very easy to simply plug and play as long as you have a USB-A port (the big one that most desktop computers and older laptops have). If you aren’t tech-savvy, this is far easier to connect than a Bluetooth set. I just plugged the receiver into my PC, popped the batteries in the devices and they connected instantly as soon as I turned them on. First, let’s take a closer look at the keyboard. The design is sleek and professional. Gone is the obnoxious Amazon Basics logo plastered on the front (THANK YOU, AMAZON!) and the style looks fresh and modern. They’ve struck a perfect balance between size and functionality, too. Even though it’s a full-size keyboard, it’s still small enough to fit nicely on a desk or lap desk. I have the “compact” Amazon Basics set that came out several years ago (pictured) and even that is a little bigger than this and it doesn’t even have dedicated buttons! The keyboard feet also aren’t as flimsy as the older model. In many ways, this is a major upgrade in terms of style and functionality. Turning attention to the mouse, it’s a little more run-of-the-mill and not as sleek as the keyboard. Yet, it’s perfectly functional. It has a comparable size to its predecessors, and it moves smoothly. The track wheel also now has added ridges making for more precise scrolling. As with the keyboard, the logo is gone (yay!). The biggest win for me, though, is the battery compartment Weird, I know, but you don’t understand the anguish of trying to open the battery compartment on the compact version. It was horrible. Well, PRAISE JEFF BEZOS, they have fixed it with this model. There are, however, drawbacks. I use Gmail as my default mail application, but the e-mail button will only do as much as open a browser window (identical to the home key). It’d be nice if there was a way to map it to open directly to a specific site, rather than just the homepage. I haven’t found a way to do that, though, so the key is rendered useless. Also, the keyboard indicator lights are very dim and almost impossible to see unless you’re looking directly down at it (see pictures for the difference between how I see it when I’m sitting at my desk, versus standing and looking down at it). Overall, I’m very happy with this set. With this model, I think Amazon Basics has found a sweet spot of value, style, and functionality in its wireless keyboard/mouse combo range. ... show more

  • When it arrives, remove the battery from mouse and check it.
Size: QWERTY Layout
Don't ship anything without making sure the battery is good. I invested many hours trying to get a new computer to work only to find out the mouse battery was bad.

  • Random rrrrrrrrrrrrrrpeating leaters
Size: QWERTY Layout
This seemed like a great choice for the price but soon found that this keyboard was creating problems for me. After using it for a week or so, I found that random keys get stuck at random times. Often this was happening around 2-3 times every ten minutes of typing. It has happened twice while writing this review, causing me to go back and edit unnecessarily and incessantly. A keyboard that creates long strings of rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrepeating letters will not work for me, I have no time for that in my life. If productivity is important to you, I strongly urge you to avoid this Amazon basic model at all costs. It is not fit for use. ... show more

  • Adequate keyboard if you are not an actual typist.
Size: QWERTY Layout
I just tested the keyboard. It’s not too bad. I’m a 100+ wpm typist who learned to type way many, many years ago on a manual typewriter so I my touch is really, really hard. So the touch on this is a too squishy for me – I like a firm touch with a definite click to it - but I can handle this one. Now that I'm retired as a legal secretary, I I don’t do marathon typing so the touch on a keyboard isn’t as important as it used to be back in the day when I pounded on and shorted out cheap keyboards on a regular basis. I still love me a good clicky keyboard like IBM made back in the day but they are hard to come by and very expensive. This keyboard would be adequate for the average keyboard user. ... show more
