Top Amazon Reviews

  • The Good (audio), the Bad (calls), and UGLY (China)
Color: Active White Style: PowerBuds
This is a combination review of the Amazfit PowerBuds (some of which also applies to the Amazfit GTR 2e Smartwatch because they share the same app/platform). The GOOD: Sound: Great actually. The PowerBuds sound amazing for the money! The soundstage is meh, and the transient response is meh, but combined with the very capable EQ built in, these can sound very VERY good. Now, when I say this or that is "meh", I'm comparing to classics like the Senny HD600 and the like. Not a fair comparison, clearly, but it gives you some context. If the review stopped here, I'd wholeheartedly recommend the PowerBuds. Passthrough: The passthrough mode works pretty decently. It wasn't a selling point for me, but it does work. Battery: Fantastic on both devices. The PowerBuds never ran out of battery, and the watch averaged 10 days per charge. The BAD: Calls: The YT reviews all say the call quality is good, but every call I tried the listener said I sounded like I was "muffled", "compressed all weird", "too quiet", etc.. Unusable for calls in my experience. Buttons: I was never able to find a happy medium where the buttons were triggered consistently. It took 3-5 tries before successfully doing what I was trying to do. Light touch, heavy touch, didn't matter. In the meantime, you feel like you're damaging your ear drums pounding on the buds because they aren't responding. The UGLY: China: These devices are calling home CONSTANTLY. See the screenshots of the dozens of Xiaomi, Huami, and Amazfit servers my phone firewall was blocking. One URL was blocked nearly 8,000 times. So keep in mind, to get any kind of decent functionality out of these devices, you need to consent to complete access to your call data, your contact data, your messaging data (across various messaging apps), and various other things... and you have no control of where it's being sent. If you're okay with that, buy these devices. ... show more

  • headphone is great, needs better instructions
Color: Dynamic Black Style: PowerBuds
I purchased these headphones after looking at a few others in the same price range. These seem to have a little more feature than the other competitors in the same tier, and I mainly wanted it for when I go running. I appreciate the magnetic mount they include so it can actually hang onto my ears too. The sound is clear and it has plenty ear piece sizes to fit anyone. My one and minor complaint is that at first I didn't know I had to download the app to use all features. (IE, check heart rate, change gesture/motion to skip, start music, etc). I looked through the booklet they have in there but I don't think it said anything in there either. After I downloaded the app it told me about how to change and do more with the headphones. Minor issue, the headphone worked without the app by just connecting to bluetooth too. ... show more

  • Excellent Sound Quality, Easy to Use, Great Value!
Color: Dynamic Black Style: PowerBuds
Picked these up a few days ago after shopping many different ear buds. Couldn't be happy enough! The sound quality is really stunning, especially after I tailored the EQ settings in the Amazfit app (cool that it has this feature!). I didn't really think I'd need/appreciate the noise cancelling, but it is extraordinary. Walking around outside, all I hear is my music. Was kind of eerie at first since it worked so good, but now that I'm used to it, it's awesome. Was easy to set up and sync with my Motorola Android phone. Phone quality is excellent. I haven't found a need for the add-on over ear hooks, but good that I have them for more active use. It has a few extra sizes of silicone ear pieces, but I haven't messed with those as they fit well for me out of the box. Battery life seems to be very good. These are years ahead of the Skull Candy ear buds I've replaced. Strongly recommend! ... show more

  • Loaded with features, including active noice cancelling, hearing health, and neck health
Color: Frost White Style: PowerBuds Pro
I got these because of the feature set that includes active noise cancelling (ANC), heart rate monitoring. The ANC can be set to a few profiles such as travel mode for subways and airplane noise, workout mode which adapts to outdoor environments to improve workout safety, and finally indoor mode for typical office environments. I've only tried workout and indoor mode, because taking public transportation or flying is still not ideal right now. These modes will draw more power than when ANC is off, but it is definitely useful when you need to focus a little more. There is even a pass-through mode that allows you to hear more, like having hearing+. There is also what is called 'cervical protection' which allows you to calibrate your upright head and it will measure the forward tilt of your head. I hope they implement some sort of an alarm if you start slouching too much. The buds can also remind you to relax your neck if you've been sitting for a long time, a bit of music plays and guides you to move your head and rotate your neck in the direction of the sound cues in the music. Definitely a plus for those sitting at a computer for hours at a time. The running detection and workout saving is interesting to have but I have yet to get good use of it. I need to get off my butt more often. I live the buds, they are comfortable and have 4 different sized tips to make sure they fit snugly. There is an automatic pause/play option that detects when you pull the earbuds out and pauses whatever media you are playing, this works with smartphones and laptops playing youtube videos, music, podcasts, etc. It uses a light sensor on the back of each earbud to see if it's been pulled out, and resumes playing when the sensor is covered. This feature can be turned off in the app. Which leads to a few oddities. If you want to make any changes to the button functionality, ANC modes, pause/play detection, etc, you have to install a fitness app. The buds appear under 'My Devices'. Another oddity is the way they sit in the case. They are inserted with the eartips pointing outward, so you have to flip them to put them into your ears, it's not a big deal, but I have to wonder what the product designer was thinking when they built this case. Anyways, good overall buds with some interesting health features. If you don't need these features, then the Amazfit Powerbuds Pro are probably overkill for you. ... show more
