I’ve worn Hokas for the longest time. I loved the feel of them, but my brother swore by Altras so I figured I’d give them a try. I will say, if you’re not used to zero drop shoes it does take a moment to adjust. I’ve had mine for about a month and I am still adjusting. It’s not a negative factor regarding the shoe, but more so a tip that things will feel a bit different in an Altra. With that said, these shoes have provided me with a ton of stability! I do road and trail running and I’d often find myself rolling my ankles in the hokas. So far no instances like that in the Altras. I’m pretty much in love with them, but the tongue design has my ankles pretty torn up. I’ve been getting blisters and cuts since the tongue is a tough plastic. BUT, don’t let that deter you. If you wear some socks that cover your ankles you’ll be fine. Overall opinion: I love them and I recommend! ... show more

Altra is my running shoe brand, I only wear Altra. That said, I knew about this issue and when I saw these shoes on clearance I grabbed 2 pair. I figure I can either cut the tongue or see if the tongue will soften with wear. Other than the tongue, these are still amazing shoes. I had to resist the urge to buy more. They did cut into me a little - it was mildly annoying but not enough to stop wearing lol ... show more

Everything about this shoe is perfect, except for the flap under the laces. It’s pretty stiff and short so it goes directly into the front of your ankle/lower shin. It doesn’t hurt, and once they’re broken in it doesn’t bother you at all. Overall I would definitely buy again, perfect toe box space, very comfy but not too thick like the hoka’s (I hated those), and very lightweight. ... show more

Comfortable shoes with a wide toe box - perfect for me since I had foot surgery 6 weeks ago and still have swelling. The arch support is good. The tongue is a thin material, and not padded, so it is a bit strange, but not uncomfortable.

I love everything about these shoes except the tongue. Great comfort, solid support, nice materials. But, if I’m not wearing tall socks, the tongue will slice open my ankle. I’d really love to see this improved in!

These shoes are super comfy and hug the back of your ankle really well. However, like the other reviews have said the tongue cuts into the front of your food. I have two slightly bloody lines on the front of my ankles from wearing them for three hours, just walking around. I’ll cut them a bit and it should be fine, but I do wish it was just a comfy cushy tongue. ... show more

Gray is really a seafoam green. Love everything about the size and fit, but if you are wearing short socks, the tongue rubs at the ankle and can get pretty sore! Hoping that gets better as they get more broken in...

I ordered them in wide, glad I did. I feel like Altra shoes are getting progressively narrower, which is frustrating. The tongue is a bit stiff, but I wear socks that go under it, so it was only a little bothersome the first day, not after.
