9/10, -1 for a bit of a longer break in period than previous version TL;DR The shoe is completely redesigned without understatement, they still feel very good for running or daily work wear but almost everything has changed about the previous version. Changes: 1. The shoe is mostly made of more mesh padding that is very airy, i noticed it immediately upon wearing the shoe when i went for a walk with a slight breeze and could feel it on my toes. 2. The heel is more rigid than soft which for some might throw them off at first especially when breaking in the shoe. It is also narrower and has a better heel cup feel. It feels better for running as it is a more secure heel than before, but very rigid. I feel it’s a good change as the previous version heels are tearing on mine which prompted the purchase. 3. The tongue is more padded than previous version, this gives the top of your feet better feel as you bring your foot up in stride as previously you may have felt the laces more as it was very thin 4. Better ground feel. The shoe is known for feeling pretty close to the ground with the zero drop and I appreciate it as it makes me feel like a more natural run than overly cushioned, but it is still a soft landing on every foot strike with what looks like more of the ergo foam 5. Changed all of the locations of the reflective stripes which may be off putting for early morning or late night runners for safety, I’m not sure why the reflective laces and heel reflection were changed for more reflection in the front but the design does not change anything for me 6. General logo placement and size changes. Not a problem as it doesn’t affect your run but could be a swag difference for those shoe enthusiasts who care. It was very odd to see them completely redesigned like this as most other companies would only change maybe one or two things for the next version, but I love running in Torins and they feel great all day for working on my feet. Great purchase and would buy again.

Altra Torins have been a game-changer for me. I have always had trouble with my feet getting bursitis (on the outside balls of my feet by my little toes). I finally had my feet scanned at a local running shoe store, and it turns out, even though I have normal/medium width feet overall, due to how my feet are shaped, I need a wider toe box to keep from the shoes rubbing that area. Since wearing Torin model 6’s, 7’s and now 8’s, I no longer have the problem. Also, the zero drop “barefoot” profile has eliminated the plantar fasciitis that I had been experiencing - probably because the zero drop has allowed my Achilles tendon to slowly stretch out. I will always wear these shoes and hope they never stop making them. They look a little funny with the wide toe box, but for me, comfort and function come way before looks in running/walking shoes.

Perfect shoe. Not too high or low of a stack height (30 mm seems perfect), nice medium cushion (not too firm or soft), actually foot shaped like shoes should be, holds my heel in nicely and they have held up very well thus far, definite buy.

Review for ALTRA Men's Torin 8 Road Running ...: Frustratingly Incorrect Width, Despite Ordering Wide Four different Altra shoes were recently ordered on Amazon. Both were selected with the WIDE WIDTH option, which was clearly listed and available. Both orders were received in the standard, MEDIUM width, which is unacceptable. Altra shoes were specifically sought out for their wider toe box. The availability of a dedicated wide width in the models I picked. Whe wide width offered created optimism. Receiving the wrong width twice is a significant disappointment and a waste of time, money, and resources. Ordered: Altra in Wide Width Received: in Medium Width Initial Impression (Medium Width): The standard fit of this shoe is uncomfortable and restrictive due to the incorrect width. The ample toe space that is often associated with Altra's wide options was not provided. Frustration: The incorrect sizing prevents experiencing the advertised features and benefits of this shoe, further adding to the frustration. Overall Disappointment and Wasted Resources: Returning items is frustrating because of an avoidable error. This experience has wasted time and the resources used in packaging and shipping the incorrect items. Amazon should not allow sellers to offer the wide width option if it is not truly available and accurately fulfilled. This misrepresentation is misleading and impacts customers who desperately need wider footwear due to foot problems. The situation has left the me without the proper footwear needed for my feet rehab. Amazon and Altra should address this issue to ensure accurate listings and fulfillment for wide-width shoes in the future. This kind of mistake impacts customer satisfaction and trust. Unfortunately, I will have 2 wait for the 3rd and 4th. Altra pairs in order to return them, as I believe they will ALSO be sent in medium width, which is not going to allow me to keep them.

Love Altra shoes! I have some leg swelling from venous insufficiency so I had to get a half size larger. The Torin 8 doesn't get as good of reviews as some of the Altra's mainly because people complain that they are too narrow. Personally, I think the toe box is wider than the Rivera 4's that I previously had. They are comfortable to walk in with a nice cushion. I bought 2 pairs as not sure if tariffs are going to hit the price of these. Highly recommend!

I’ve had the Torin 5, 7, and now 8. These shoes have helped a lot with knee and back issues. They are flat and have a wide toe box, but also have the perfect amount of cushioning.
