  • Echo + Alexa app does a lot
Color: Twilight Blue Configuration: Echo Dot with clock
the amazon echo is a great addition to your home if you are open to having mics listening in on your activities and conversations. I know some don't like that, but those who allow it will find great convenience in getting information about weather, movies, actors, jokes, and more. Plus, you'll be able to request music, and with a little effort in the app, you can have the same music playing via a group across multiple echos and fire sticks, giving you a great way to have a sonos-like environment. While the intelligence of the questions aren't up to par with Google's similar devices, the echo will suffice for most. Just don't expect it to answer complex questions, or provide extremely precise answers in all cases. And if you're a smart home user who likes to control lights, thermostats, etc., then the echo and its alexa app let you do lots of cool things, and even automate them with routines (e.g., say "goodnight" at the end of the day to turn off all the lights and lower the thermostat). What's especially nice is if you have multiple brands, the alexa app bridges that complexity so it all plays nicely together. Keep a spare echo ready in your music group and you can bring it outside on the deck on a nice day and have your music - and control of your music - at your side. Just wish they'd come out with a waterproof or outdoor version to have it out there all the time. ... show more

  • Alexa is fun to use
I have had this little ball for a couple of months before I reviewed it. Overall I am happy but there are a couple of glitches. One the alarm works if I set it daily but to set for everyday at the same time it didn't go off (luckily I set a 2nd clock.) And the last few days the volume seems to have faded I have set it on the device, and on the app. I have to keep telling her to raise the volume as I can't hear the notifications from 10 feet away. Even the alarm was very soft although it was set at volume 5 and it was at 3 before and I could hear it fine. I don't believe I am going deaf overnight as I can hear everything else just fine. ... show more

  • Love it
Color: Twilight Blue Configuration: Echo Dot with clock
Until I bought this, I was one of the few people still using the digital clock radio I had been using for more than 30 years. Finally decided to up my technology. :) Love that I can choose what I wake up to. I am very happy I bought it.

  • Easy to use and set up
Color: Twilight Blue Configuration: Echo Dot with clock
Love the clock feature and it still recognized my voice from a good distance away when I was sick and could barely talk. I am not the best with techy stuff, but this was super easy to set up and link to my other echos.

  • Helpful and useful little ball.
Color: Twilight Blue Configuration: Echo Dot with clock
I keep this in my room, paired with my other 4th-gen. Echo Dot for stereophonic sound. My beside clock's display is too small and distant for me to read from across the bed, and the ceiling projector is only good in complete darkness. This makes for a good timepiece when I need it, plus I use it for things like weather reports and music when I'm getting ready to start my day. When you tell it to change volume, the setting shows up on the LED display. I enabled the Samuel E. Jackson speech ability (for a small fee), and I enjoy it immensely, especially the uncensored version. I have virtually every room in my home equipped with at least one Echo Dot, some 3rd-gen., some 4th. I can make announcements, communicate directly with people in other rooms, and even make free calls to other Echo devices outside of where I live. This is a wonderful piece of technology, and it's much more affordable than Apple's HomePod. โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… 5/5 ... show more

  • Great device
Color: Twilight Blue Configuration: Echo Dot with clock
I already have a few echo devices in the house. What drew me to this one is that it displays the time. The design is small and compact. Very classy. The lighting on the device is bright enough for me to see in the middle of the dark but not enough to keep me up at night. The speaker is of good quality. Overall very happy with it! ... show more

  • Brilliant (But Dimmable Enough For Sensitive Eyes!)
Color: Twilight Blue Configuration: Echo Dot with clock
The current top review for Alex's DeathStaโ€”I mean, the Echo Dot 4th Genโ€”at the time I'm writing this covers all the basics beautifully, and since you've probably already read that one, I won't reiterate all those points. Instead, here's what makes the 4th Gen Dot a winner for me. 1. Built In Clock I'm pretty nearsighted, and squinting across the room at the Hubster's clock radio doesn't cut it. The little clock face on my "Moon Dot" (as I've named it in Alexa's Devices list), which lives on my nightstand, means that if I wake up, I can check the time without activating my tablet and possibly falling down an internet rabbit hole. Sure, there are other, potentially cheaper ways to solve that problem, but most of them don't have... 2. Extremely Adjustable Brightness: Ultra-Dim Mode, Go! I have great night vision, which is just another way of saying that my eyes are really sensitive to light. I'm forever being vaguely annoyed by how everything is hailed as "ultra-bright," when really I just want most things to have an ultra-dim mode. The Echo Dot 4th Gen can bring the Ultra-Bright, assuming you have normal eyes and that's a thing you want. But it can *also* bring the Ultra-Dim, if you're a weirdo like me. Many bedside clocks are bright enough to keep me awake, and few are dim enough that I can look at them without my eyes smarting. With its brightness turned down to between 2% and 5%, the Echo Dot 4th Gen fits the bill. 3. Great White Noise Speaker! In addition to being a cranky dim-light fanatic, I sleep really lightly. Every little sound will wake me up, but a constant stream of white noise will help my brain ignore the inevitable bumps-in-the-night, honks, car alarms, barking dogs, people randomly knocking on doors several houses away... However, I travel a lot for work, and the lighter I can pack, the better. Combined with rain or fan sounds streamed from a music app, the Dot 4th Gen makes a perfect portable white noise system. I've been using my Dot 4th Gen for white noise for a couple of weeks, and the sound quality is good enough for it to be relaxing. The only con here is that if I don't mute the Mic after the hubs falls asleep, Alexa will pause the music when he snores because he thinks he's trying to talk to her xD Thank goodness there's a mute button! 4. Morning Weather Reports Without Overcaffeinated DJs ^-^ Look, I get it. Lots of us find it helpful to listen to peppy people in the morning, and that's fineโ€”it's just not for me. I like a more mellow approach to the start of my day. I'm hyper enough already! However, it's nice to get a succinct preview of the general state of the weather *before* you get dressed, right? So with a few taps, you can set up a weather announcement for specific time or to play after your alarm goes off. Sure, I could try to remember to glance at the weather on my tablet or phone (without getting sucked in), but I have ADHD, and the more I can automate, the better. Work smarter, right? 5. In fact, Alexa in general. I didn't expect Alexa to come in anywhere near has handy as she does. This is my third Dot. The first, a 2nd-Gen hockey puck Dot, now lives in my kitchen, where Alexa sets timers answers cooking questions, updates me on the weather, etc. The second, a 3rd-gen white hockey puck, lives in the living room, where Alexa can launch movies and TV shows, etc. They are all excellent sources of terrible dad jokes, though when I ask Alexa if she's Dad, she consistently denies having any children. I'm not convinced. I suppose that, for me, that's the only major "con." When you install an Echo Dot, you put yourself at the mercy of Alexa's dad jokes, invoked by friends and family whenever you least expect them. For an excellent clocks radio I white noise machine-weather station-personal assistant-information dispenser, it's a small price to pay. ... show more

Color: Glacier White Configuration: Echo Dot with clock
Iโ€™d love my device and use it almost daily. I work from home so I mainly use it for listening to music throughout the day, setting reminders/alarm or reading me an audiobook. Very happy with this purchase!
