    • Good musically, not always recognizable
A rural congregation is frequently forced to listen to my version of church music, particularly at holidays like Christmas. My playing is not so good. Consequently, I try to seek out more interesting or pretty scores to play for them. I hope to decrease their pain a little bit. These pieces a very good, very well arranged pieces. They are musically interesting and written as the effort of really famous composers. So, this book is a unique and interesting contribution to the larger literature of Christmas keyboard music. For me, it's something I can keep and actually enjoy in private, but it isn't okay for me to play for other people. These are not mainly clearly and cleanly arranged, harmonically interesting arrangements of Christmas music everyone knows and loves. They are creditable arrangements of music appropriate to Christmas, but not always very recognizable. People want "Royal David's City" or "Silent Night" or "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" more than they want musically interesting but less recognized themes. That is not unreasonable. It's good for me, bad for them. So, I don't play it for them very much. (Whatever I don't play is clearly to their advantage anyway.) ... show more

lovely collection of music for the Christmas season but not the usual tunes. All by well loved composers and most new to my piano students.
