  • Great kit for the price
Style: Drum Set Only
This kit it great for the price. I got this to use exclusively with Superior Drummer and for that, it works great. I also like the module and on board sounds, but like anything there are pros and cons. I’ll go into some details. Pros: - Near full size kit. I don’t really notice that much of a difference between this and standard size drums. - three zone ride for edge, bow and bell. At this price, this is a big plus. - The crashes are dual or three zone. (Can’t use third zone with included module) - sensitivity and feel of drum pads are great. - rack and mounting are sturdy. Trust me I play hard. - All mesh pads are dual zone - Module is easy to use and has some nice features for the price point - even though this kit uses a high hat pedal controller, the one that comes with this kit works really well and has multiple articulations. - lots of fun sounds and they are pretty decent. Cons: - The module uses a “snake” for most of the pads with a single plug in and the lengths are for a standard setup. If you want to customize your layout you might need extenders. I’ve done this in the past with other kits and works fine. This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars and not five. - only two “expansion” pad inputs and they’re taken up by the included pads. Again making this kit hard to customize. If you want to add additional pads, which I did, you have to use an additional module or splitters. If you use splitters you lose the dual zone of what ever pad you split and it’s a pain. I went with using an additional module. I only added tree pads so far and used my Alesia sample pad pro inputs for those. You could also just use a different module all together. - the cymbal stands for the crashes and ride. I HATE that they are mounted inside the three posts. Not only are they stuck in the position, when you tighten them in, they sit crooked. It’s a bit nit picky, but it bothers me. Again, this makes it harder to customize your layout. - The bell zone on the ride is very specific. You have to hit it just right. Once you get used to it though, it’s not too big a deal. Might be my ride trigger, but I doubt it. - Can’t use the three zone crashes with the included module. It’s a great value that the crashes have three zones, but you can’t use them without a an addition module or a different module. All in all, for the price point, you can’t beat this kit. For my purpose of using this with ToonTrack Superior Drummer in my home studio, it is perfect. If you want to heavily customize, you may want to get another module or just a different kit. ... show more

  • Very disappointed
Style: Drum Set Only
I was very exited about getting these drums. I saw a lot of positive reviews on YouTube. But unfortunately my experience was the complete opposite. I don’t know if I got a messed up drum set. But the cómbala didn’t work. I believe that 2 of the cables were labeled incorrectly and that’s maybe why the cymbals were not responding as they should. The drum trigger was way to bouncy and every time I hit it it made my pedal rebound twice as you were using a double bass pedal. The sound was great on the toms but when you use the same level of volume on the cymbals you could bearly hear them. Overall a bad experience. I return the item and wait for my money back. And will go back to acoustic drum set ... show more

  • Wow
Style: Drum Set Only
I absolutely love this kit. I will admit it is the first set I've owned, but I've been playing here and there over the years. The pad sizes are excellent. The cymbals are responsive (the choke is a little tricky). I adjusted the settings a little, but not much adjustment was required. It took me a little while to get comfortable to hit the set about as hard as an acoustic - they can take it! I knew these weren't silent, but apparently I can't even play them with headphones while people are sleeping. Being on the 2nd floor, the kick drum can be felt around much of the house. I'm using the dw3000 double bass pedal. The whole kit is solid on regular carpet. Nothing feels cheap about this kit (except maybe the included sticks - I got some Vic Firth American Classic Extreme 5AN nylon tips instead). All of the geometries are fairly adjustable. It has been taking some time to get everything how I want it. I wanted the 2 crashes in front and ride on the far right side - it barely reaches, but is OK. I also swapped the controller and hi hat because my left tip was hitting my right hand. Much better now. I also keep fut-sing with the snare stand to fit right between the double bass pedal and my legs. Don't but the Studio version of this kit. For $200 more, you get bigger cymbals, another tom, bigger toms, a snare stand, and better drum module. I haven't had much trouble with double hits on the hi hat. The hi-hat pedal is a little slow. I tried adjusting the settings a little which helped, but still behind. I'd like to try the Pro-X hi-hat but I read it is not supported (it is a setting in the module though!). There are many different kits - Indian, African, electronica, etc. I would like some more regular kits. I tried using a few USB drives to expand the sounds, but both said were unsupported even though I formatted them to FAT32 per the instructions. I just contacted Alesis support. I'd also like if I could expand it with one more cymbal - especially if the hi hat becomes extra after getting something like the Pro-X. I use the headphones mostly with running the ipad on a music stand playing through the drum module, which works well. Also, I have a regular stereo in the room which also works well to playback (except you hear the pads more). I used these two cables to connect the module to my Denon receiver RCA inputs: 3.5 to 2 X 6.35, J&D Gold-Plated [Copper Shell] [Heavy Duty] 3.5mm 1/8" TRS Male to 2x 6.35mm 1/4" TS Male Mono Cable Splitter with Zinc Alloy Housing and Nylon Braid for iPhone, Amplifiers - 25 Feet and 3.5 mm to 2RCA Cable, J&D Gold-Plated [Copper Shell] [Heavy Duty] 3.5mm Female to 2 RCA Male Stereo Audio Adapter Cable - 25 Feet UPDATE1: My kick pad failed within the first month and I had a replacement from alesis in just 3-4 days, no quams. They also say the Pro-X hi hat is compatible- there is a setting in the utility menu to switch between. I had trouble with Ait recognizing a few different USB drive, but found a 16 GB SanDisk USB 2.0 for $7 from Amazon worked just fine. Still struggling to find kits available to download. UPDATE 2: my snare failed after a few months but they sent a replacement with no hassle. I swapped it with the 2nd floor tom while I waited. ... show more

  • Be prepared to reprogram
Style: Drum Set Only
For $1,500 this set should have sounded great out of the box, with some fine tuning to one's personal preference afterwards. Instead, it sounds terrible and requires programming to get half decent sound. The snare drum is so bad, I repaced it with a real snare drum. I do not recommend this drum set. Will look to replace with Roland V drum set, but not sure which model yet. ... show more

  • Cymbals are a real detractor
Style: Drum Set Only
I bought this kit as a substitute for my acoustic set for practicing at night, and after a night of adjustments to the settings and getting used to playing it, I have a couple of comments to make. The cymbals don't respond well to impacts faster than 4/4 speed. Other than that, the toms, bass, and snare all sound fantastic and are extremely responsive, and there are a lot of great sound and customization options available in the module. It's really a shame that the cymbals sound so terrible against the great drums. Maybe I'm not setting them up properly, but I wasn't able to adjust any setting to make them behave appropriately. All in all, this is a good kit for messing around with, but very unreliable for any sort of serious/professional work. ... show more
