We're here to help you create music - whether it's strumming your firstchord, composing a masterpiece, or performing on stage. What if a new violin needs repeated tuning? It's normal for a new violin to need frequent tuning during the break-in period. New strings stretch, causing pitch shifts. Gently lift the middle of each tuned string 3-5 times to stabilize the tension. See below for tuning instructions. What if the tuning pegs slip or can't lock the tone? Due to changes in temperature and humidity, tuning pegs may slip or shift, which is normal during the break-in period. If slipping occurs, use tuning peg lubricant or chalk to increase friction, or gently tap them back into place with a hammer. What if a string breaks? New violins may snap strings while breaking in. Restring: loosen pegs, replace strings by color—Purple E, Blue A, Green D, Black G. Secure the bead, thread the peg with 1cm slack, wind E/A clockwise, D/G counterclockwise, then seat on bridge and nut. How should the bridge be positioned correctly? A slight tilt of the bridge on a new violin is normal due to transportation and tension changes. The bridge should be placed vertically between the f holes.
