  • Legendary Portabilty, Powerful tools onboard.
Love my new MPC Live. Had an MPC 2000 XL years ago. Need an option to be more portable with and this is definitely one of the great pieces Akai has made. Compact and easy to use if you are already familiar with this companies products. Advice... Watch plenty of tutorials online to blast off.

  • AWESOME
Love it. I've been using an Electribe 2 for the last year or so, and felt like it was time for an upgrade. Awesome machine. I haven't delved too deep into it yet, but so far everything I've tried to do with it has been fairly intuitive. Coming from a daw the workflow might be a little confusing, but coming from the Electribe, it wasn't all that different. The build quality is great. The touchscreen is easily one of the most accurate and responsive touchscreens I've used on any device. The only minor gripe I had was, when mine arrived, it was missing the power supply, but I called up Akai, and they're sending me one, so that's no biggie. In the meantime, I got a universal laptop charger that works with it just fine. (: Other than that little hiccup, I have no complaints. Five stars (: ... show more

  • Even worse, I've had mine for 3 months and the ...
There is a huge learning curve with this product. All instruction of value is online and most of it is marketing / promotional information, unless you're willing to pay for some tutorials. I design multi-million $$ UI's for a living and engineer UX's. They've tried to fit too much onto a small touch screen without providing the appropriate amount of documentation and instructional material. Even worse, I've had mine for 3 months and the onboard hard drive crashed - meaning I lost access to the 16GB of storage and all of the 10GB of preloaded content. Now I'm stuck. I can't return it. I can't find any online support specific to my case. I'm basically wondering around in online forums and waiting for Akai to get back to me via a warranty claim request. The MPC Live has a ton of potential - but too many corners were cut to get cheap hardware and now I'm paying the ultimate price. I'll not buy another product until I see mainstream positivity and support for the new customer / user. ... show more

  • A lot of amazing features, but confusing execution
I was one of the early buyers of the MPC Live with 2.0. Its a great product, but it has one foot in the pass and one foot in the future. The MPC OS, storage, and pads are great. Its truly a beast. The issue is you need ILok to use the software, it has no USB Audio outputs without the software, so you have to use the analog outs in standalone (Zoom had multiple USB outs for years????). The midi is odd because you can use the DIN midi /USB when contacted to the computer with software, but you can only use the USB in standalone for USB controllers (MidiTwister or usb keyboard). In standalone mode USB MIDI is not available (I could not use the TAS-1 USB midi in standalone had to use DIN). Again, It's beast and you'll love it, but you will be scratching your head on some things that you would think is possible with a MPC by now. ... show more

  • $200 restocking fee rip off
This is a fantastic piece of kit but didn't work for me within my setup as it was not easy to output files to computer software for further editing. Great if you like to do everything within the hardware though. Well made solid construction will certainly survive life on the road. Now the bad news. As this didn't work within my set[/workflow I returned the unit to Amazon. They charged me a $200 restocking fee! They never mentioned a restocking fee so I was surprised to find it had been subtracted from my return. If I had known I would have simply sold the unit on eBay or reverb. What a total rip off. ... show more

  • Some Flaws either software or hardware or both
First ill say this thing is impressive. There's only one thing I can find that's annoying as all get out. In the sample edit mode, I try to save slices to the pad bank and i find my self having to do it twice because it does not save correctly the first time. and not sometimes either. It does that every time. The sample slices will not be on the pad I assigned it to and sometimes the sample will not be there at all. That is very annoying when trying to build on all pads and banks smh. Kills the work flow in the worst way. Other than that, this thing is steller. ... show more

  • Great unit!
Once you learn the operating system (many YouTube videos available) it’s pretty amazing. I’m a record producer for 45 years. This thing rocks. Check you the YouTube videos first. You’ll be amazed. AND.. it’s also portable!

  • Lots of learning resources available.
I love it so far! I’ve only had it for 2 days and have already figured out the basics with a mixture of common sense, YouTube videos, Akai forums and the extensive User guide.. if you are patient with it and have a sense of rhythm you should be fine with the learning curve. Also, if you are considering the extended warranty (manufacturers warranty is 12 months from the date of purchase) that is advertised through Amazon pay attention to the price fluctuations. UPDATE: Just over 1 year later.... I still absolutely love it. The firmware updates are always excellent. There are some small glitches and occasionally I have issues saving. But still a 5 star machine for sure. ... show more
