This is a great bookcase worth having. It holds a lot of books and has a smaller footprint than regular bookcases. It’s tall, sturdy and provides easy access to all of your books. I find it to be very stable and functional. I love that it is on a carousel, which gives 360 access. The only drawback I had was inserting the rods for better alignment, which I ended up not using because I couldn’t figure them out, but it did not affect the functionality. I’m an older, retired female and I was able to put this together by myself in a couple of hours. Once together, it’s extremely heavy, so put it together in or near the room you plan to use it in. This is so much better than many of the other rotating shelves that are more expensive and made mostly of mdf. This is steel with wood shelves. Packaging was fine. Good design and went together fairly easily if you read and understand the instructions first. I saw a couple of reviews where people seemed to have trouble installing the rods. I had no trouble. The instructions are clear on installing the rods IF you look at them carefully before trying to install them. The hardware for the most part, is good quality. The bearing could have been a little more heavy duty, but it is adequate and moves fairly well even with a heavy load. Threading of the metal parts and bolts is good. I took off one star because the black coating on about half the metal pieces had some small scratches. But since it's black, all you need is to touch them up with a black marker and you'll never notice them. ... show more

Note: If you have a tight space, please allow at least 22.5" for this to turn. I was able to assemble it by myself and found it went together easily. However, in lieu of the second pair of hands, I used my couch to lay the pieces out. This is a heavy duty bookshelf. The metal is not flimsy at all and it holds a lot in both volume and weight. An entire set of vtg encyclopedias (41 volumes and heavy) fit on the bottom two rows. The only difficult part of assembly came at the very end. Getting the screws in for the rotating platform and the top piece was time consuming. You have to get the screw through both sides of the metal piece and into a pre-set hole piece in the wood. The shank of the screw is short so you don't have much room to play with. Without x-ray vision, it is challenging and frustrating, but time and patience will win out. ... show more

The Good: 1) It’s respectably sturdy, with the lazy Susan sandwiched between two bottom boards instead of sitting unstabilized on the floor. 2) It holds a lot of books, and allowed me to consolidate three 32”h x 28”w bookshelves’ worth of my living room books into much less floor space (and as a vinyl and book collector in an antique 925 sq. ft. house I share with my partner, that was a primary purpose of the purchase). 3) It’s simple and straight-forward to put together. (That’s a subjective statement, of course. If you tend to struggle with mechanical/spacial schemas, and aren’t the handy/DIY type, the diagrams and profusion of screws may frustrate you to no end). The Bad: 1) They went to great lengths to edit 99% of the highly visible steel hardware out of the product images, which is inarguably dishonest advertising. This thing is held together by a MULTITUDE of unhidden screws, and they stick out like flashing neon. There are also guide holes, which could have easily been stickers instead of permanent bores that remain visible after assembly—just, why?! 2) ALL of the outer rails are out of square and none come together flush. 3) EVERY joint and connection point is fastened with sloppy, globby, uneven, inconsistent, low-grade, unskilled tack-“welds” (imagine giving a soldering gun to a 10 year old, showing them how to use it once, and then saying “here, put these pieces together”). The Wrap-up: The ONE thing I didn’t want was a tower that looked like a cheap, tacky piece of dorm furniture, and that’s EXACTLY what this looks like. Now I’ve got to come up with a project plan to transform its appearance. AND, I bought this one, out of the numerous almost-identical items, because I THOUGHT IT DIDN’T have glaringly unaesthetic hardware, and WOULDN’T become another appearance-improvement project (I’ve already got about 27 of those going on at any given time). UUUUGH! If I’d noticed all these things before letting my partner toss the packaging while I was laying it all out to put together, I would have returned it. Hindsight, 20/20, so it goes. Overall, I paid $115 plus tax on a piece that’s not worth more than $70-75 in terms of materials, construction, and aesthetics. No matter what your budget or income is, overpriced is overpriced. The only thing preventing it from being 2-star status is the concealed lazy Susan (and I’m still reporting it for misleading product images). ... show more
