I live in a very small studio apartment so space is extremely limited. I wanted something that would last longer than the several pull out sofa beds I've gone through. I was hesitant to spend so much but it was worth it. As many people have said, it arrives in a few boxes and they are VERY heavy. Have them brought directly into your home if possible. I had to maneuver mine from my walkway but I managed. Unlike others, I didn't not notice any obvious imperfections or breaks. I was also not missing any hardware and did not need anything but what was provided to assemble. I put it together alone and, though it did take a long time, I did not have any difficulties. I have had this for over two years now and I do not regret the purchase one bit. It is still in very good working condition and the exterior has only a few scratches despite being traversed by my cat on a regular basis. I've seen a few people commenting on the strength of the slats so a word on that. I live in a very small studio. When unfolded, the only way through the room is to go over the bed. I literally WALK across the top of this bed several times a night. For reference, I am almost 6 feet tall and over 200lbs. My slats are still in perfect condition. I would 100% recommend this product. The one complaint I have is that the drawers are very difficult to pull out on any sort of carpet. I have tile floor but I did have a very thin rug underneath at one point. It was such a struggle to pull the drawers out fully that I just ditched the rug completely. ... show more

I am actually pretty impressed by this piece of furniture. My husband assembled it in under an hour by himself, so it was easy to put together for a handy person. The mattress seems like it will be comfortable enough for guests to sleep on without them wanting to over stay their welcome, hah! The only thing I'm disappointed about is the crappy paint job. They maybe sprayed one layer of paint on the exterior of the cabinet in a dusty shop so there are paint goobers and chips and on the entire piece. This isn't super noticeable if you're jogging by it briskly, but unfortunately our office is too small to jog. I wish they would have at least sent a touch-up pen. I have contacted the company, we'll see how we fair there. The freight company that delivered ours was great. They called the day before it arrived and the entire item, which consisted of three very large boxes was shipped on a wooden pallet and wrapped well. There wasn't one hole or scratch in the packaging when it arrived. (Thanks Diamond Line Delivery Systems!) Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. If you're looking for a Murphy bed on the affordable side, in a chest type configuration, this is a great buy. ... show more

    • Concealed Damage. No Response from Company!

In theory, it's a great product. The item arrived in 3 large boxes. The base with the drawer came in one box, another box for the top portion which had to be assembled, and the mattress. I unpacked everything. Looked great. Discovered the dowel pins were missing. Trying calling and the answering service let me know that they'd be in touch within 10 days(?????). I went and bought pins that I could find and cut them to length. Got it put together and went to pull the draw our fully (I pulled it out partially during assembly with no issue). When I went to push it back in it got stuck so I pulled it back out to find one drawer glide separated with ball bearings falling out. Then noticed the drawer bottom was broke. As you see in the picture I was able to push it back into place. I've emailed the company no less than 3 times. Left several messages with their answering service. Tried Amazon and nothing. I can return it but trying to get it back into the boxes is beyond a job. Amazon has offered a partial refund but I'm not sure what that would be. I've even told them, I'd fix it if they sent a slide but still no response. I like to give companies the opportunity to make it right and have but now I'm not sure what to do. UPDATE: The company never responded. Amazon gave us the option to return for a refund (I have no idea how that would work because it is several hundred pounds and would get destroyed). or take a 25% refund to keep it. I found more damage, all six slides have to be replaced and a bracket has to be bent back in place. I think this may be easier than trying to lug it downstairs or disassemble and try to ship back. ... show more

    • AFI manufacturer issues with damaged cabinet

The murphy bed chest arrived in perfect condition from the delivery company. The box had no crushed corners or cardboard damage. After assembling the bed (Missing screws), we noticed the side was cracked and repaired by the manufacturer AFI. ( a poor repair job). On opening the lid, a 1/2 inch chunk had been damaged and missing and poorly repaired by the manufacturer also. The manufacturer AFI was no help and Amazon helped as much as they could considering they were not the manufacturer. AFI has poor customer service and took no responsibility for the condition of the bed chest. We asked for a touch up kit and first they told us they didn't sell that and finally they agreed to send a touch up pen for an absolutely astronomically, overly inflated price. We said no. We were able to take a piece of the frame to a local paint company and have them custom mix a paint match. Weeks later, we noticed that the painted wood that touches the mattress has discolored the mattress gray. The piece looks great in our room and the mattress is comfortable.
