My 3 year old niece and her friend really enjoyed this game overall. The matching aspect is a bit too advanced for them to do independently, but would probably be perfect for 5 years and up. The first time they played the game, her mom helped the girls find the matches. They loved putting the correct colored pieces into the bins mouths. They have played the game several times now and it is always a hit! They actually don't find the matches anymore, but just sort the colors into the appropriate bins. This part of the game they can completely play on their own and they seem to do well. They really enjoy it and gives her mom a few free minutes to get something done. Win, win! This game was very easy to learn and play. It was a very welcomed way to begin teaching your children about recycling. It does get repetitive after awhile so it is a good game to regift to another family.

I received this for my classroom. I wanted them to learn about recycling and the different types of materials that can be recycled. My students LOVE this game! They ask to play it daily. It is colorful and inviting. It is much like the game Memory from my childhood with finding matches. Quick and easy to learn. It's like a combination of the game Memory and adds sorting skills. My husband works in sustainability and we have fun teaching our kids how to recycle. They think it's a great game and ask to play it before other games like Candy Land or Go Fish.

Hungry Bins Board game is very well made and super easy to play. This board game is made from recycled material which immediately adds a star to my rating. This is a memory game, in which players try to match two of the same material cards. If you make a match you keep one card and place the other in the outside slot of the appropriate recycling bin. There are four colorful and distinctive bins in total. If you place the bins on a vertical you are also encouraging fine motor and eye-hand coordination skills to develop. My wife and I discovered this game company by playing their Hungry Bins game with a young granddaughter and we were happy to give that a 5-star review. For some reason, reviews of Polar Explorer and Hungry Bins seem to be accumulating on the same product page on Amazon, making the flow of those reviews potentially confusing. I want to emphasize, first, that we do indeed enjoy the original Hungry Bins. But now we've also explored Polar Explorer, which has a lot more visual and game-playing action and our family really enjoys that, too. ... show more

The simple addition of a sorting element to a memory game makes it so enjoyable. My six-year-old loves this game and even I find it fun to play (and we normally don't like memory games!). If there is no one to play my son will just entertain himself by sorting the items. It is a great addition to our game cupboard. (Other family favorites include Sequence for Kids.) Everything about this game seems well thought out including the box design and packaging- all recyclable or compostable including the plastic wrap!
