Totes love this stool/chair. I accidentally started a trend at work and at least 2 other people have had our company buy these for them. I bought this on my own because I'm a sociopath and I didn't know if I'd like it. 100 bucks seemed steep to me, personally -- definitely not even the batting of an eyelash at the office -- but I liked the sort of all-in design: it's a stool, it's adjustable, it wobbles, it's plastic, it's portable. My cubicle at work is taken up by a big Staples generic L-desk and usually I have at least 1 utility cart with a full system sitting on it that I'm testing, troubleshooting, or developing with. And since I'm at work, I also wanna not be too comfortable -- sociopath, remember -- so I don't want some ridiculously comfy chair because otherwise I'll just sink into it and get lazy. That's my worry, at least. So I had been using a plain box chair, like a modern design of just two cushions in a chair shape between two squares of wood. It worked, not too comfortable, but it couldn't spin, and my back is to the opening of my cubicle, so anytime someone came in to ask a question or talk or tell me something, I'd have to either not turn around, or turn over awkwardly in the chair. I'm 5'9"-5'10", and this is the perfect height for sitting at a desk or extending it up and having some support while semi-standing. I've got an adjustable sit-stand desk thing at work, and this works perfectly in either configuration. My favorite part is also that it lets me pick whatever awkward pose I want to contort my torso while I'm sitting and I can just lean the stool in whatever direction I want. The bottom is a solid hard plastic-y rubber, and has pretty substantial ridges. The seat cushion isn't much, but it's all vinyl and the triangular shape lets you pick whatever seat position you find comfortable. To raise and lower the seat, there are depressed buttons on every "corner" (the 3 triangle corners of the seat), so it doesn't matter how you pose the seat, you'll always have a button to reach with either hand. It's definitely sturdy enough to also just sit up straight and wrap my ankles around the post or rest my toes on the top of the base. So, you can balance, you can sit angled, and you can use it to be a little lazy at your "standing" desk. Also, my favorite part is that when it's depressed all the way down, it fits perfectly under my desk. Like I said, I don't have a lot of room in my cubicle, especially when coworkers come in to talk, so it's great to be able to just quickly scoot it under the desk out of the way, and we can talk and stand at my computer and no more awkward spinning my back halfway around to face people. Also, if I'm sitting on the stool, it's super easy to spin around and I just have to worry about my awkward corners and not the arms of a chair or the back or anything, so I don't have to worry about knocking stuff over or pulling on a dangling cable or cord or anything like that. Super convenient for engineers, developers, researchers, designers, anyone working at an adjustable desk who wants something kinda active, but doesn't wanna sit on a giant beach ball or something stupid like that. Also, since it's all plastic/vinyl, no worries about cleaning/dusting, super simple. And when it's depressed all the way down, despite being a bit heavy, I can certainly carry it no problem with one hand, and if I really wanted, I could easily bring it home in the front seat of my truck. I really appreciate the portability and practical functionality, and again, despite being a bit expensive at 100 bucks, it's well worth it, because it fits pretty much every situation I would want for it. Again, I'm a weirdo, so to me it's like "If you wanna relax, get a couch; if you wanna work, get a stool". I like spinning around, being able to change direction and lean and change height. It doesn't get in the way and it's heavy enough to stay stable and I haven't fallen down yet. Over, yes. I've fallen over, but not all the way down. Plus, I fall over almost every day, even just standing still, so it definitely isn't a result of the stool. Honestly, if I had a home with like an island or counter, I would totally get 3 or 4 of these instead of just a fixed stool, even without the back. If you're a little crafty/handy, I think you could add a back if you really really really wanted, but I just love the idea that these can be table height and counter height, all in one. Don't get too comfortable! Be ready for anything!

I’m a fitness editor and interviewed an expert for an article about how to fix back pain from sitting. He recommended an active chair, so here we are. I wanted something simple, sturdy, and adjustable to accommodate my longer legs and this chair delivered! Here’s the highlights of my experience: Reduced back pain: The ability to shift around in the chair has helped with my restless sitting during work and allows me to find a comfortable position as my definition of comfort changes from moment to moment throughout the day. It’s weighted at the bottom so it’s harder to shift around than a yoga ball, and feels more stable than I expected. Once you find a comfy spot, it’s not like constantly pulling you out of it, at least for me it’s easy to root myself to that ideal spot and shift around only if I need to. Improved posture: You wouldn’t think a chair where you have to do the work would be more comfortable, but ultimately because it encourages good posture, it’s more comfortable in the long run. I had to work up to long periods of sitting in it as my postural muscles worked up the strength, which is where my standing desk came in handy for breaks. Versatile: I literally carry this chair around my house throughout the day. Originally I planned to keep it under my standing desk but if I want to work from a table or the normal desk downstairs for longer than my lunch break I’ll bring this chair with me. I can’t stand our other chairs since using it, and find that if I slip back into using them I’m hyper aware of how uncomfortable I am throughout the day and notice my back gets tight from my terrible slouchy posture. Delivers on claims: If you’re looking for an active chair, this is a solid option. I haven’t tried others, but in my opinion this chair is designed well, feels sturdy, and is a good investment for the money. Active chairs can be expensive and I was nervous at this price point this chair wouldn’t deliver what I was expecting. After using it I see no need to spend more on one. I have no plans to upgrade mine or see any wear and tear after six months of use.

EDIT after a couple months of use: I moved the stool to a rug to try to mitigate the slow migration issue I was having. It hasn't helped. I've also noticed that when I use the stool without the peddler the stool still shifts around (although more often side-to-side than backward). I think I do a lot of active wiggling (not just incremental posture adjustments), so maybe if you're a more stationery sitter it wouldn't be an issue, but I have to readjust the position of the stool every couple of minutes most of the time. Part of the problem, too, is that it's hard to get onto the stool when it's adjusted high enough to use the peddler (higher than if you were just sitting on it normally). I have to tip it a little to sort of climb onto it, and that tends to cause it to shift, so getting it positioned correctly in the first place is sort of a guessing game. To have to do that again every few minutes is pretty frustrating. So I guess I'd recommend this if you are A) not a wiggler and B) not trying to use it at a height that is higher than what you can easily sit down onto (rather than climb up onto). So basically, it's good for its intended use. :D I still like the idea of it for using with an under-desk peddler, but the reality has not been as good as my expectation. I will try it some more with the peddler positioned as more of a recumbent bike setup than an upright bike setup. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I've only had this for a few days, so I can't speak to long-term use, but so far it seems great. As others have noted, it's not super comfortable for long periods of time, but I expect this will improve as I get used to it. Right now, I get discomfort at the edge of the seat, but I'm sitting quite far forward so that I can use an under-desk peddler/bike/elliptical device. I couldn't find any reviews that mentioned that use in particular, so I want to highlight it here. The combination is great! The movement of peddling increases the need for balance using the core, so it just enhances the function of the stool. The stool is very stable; I never feel in danger of falling or tipping over. My only complaint, and the reason for the missing star, is that it does slowly move backward/away from the under-desk peddler. My guess is that if you used it statically, this wouldn't happen, but the constant shifting and backwards-pressure from pushing on the peddles seems to very, very slowly shift the base backwards. This means stopping every few minutes to move closer again, usually because I become aware of struggling to reach my keyboard/mouse and therefore starting to slouch. I think using a rug or anti-skid mat under my desk/stool would probably solve or reduce the problem. Right now I'm on hardwood.

Good range of height, feels like it's going to last, easy to assemble, and such a nice alternative to a stable chair for back health. I primarily use mine at a taller desk, but it easily adjusts to a shorter height which allows me to use it as a sit-n-spin :-D This wobble stool has a narrow profile which makes it fit into a smaller space easily.

I've tried different types of ergonomic chairs, I've tried sit-stand desks, I've tried sitting on a big ball - And NOTHING compares to this. The seat is kinda hard (think bike seat), but I don't care. (The chair I just replaced this with had a hard seat as well.) I have experienced ZERO PAIN since I started using this a few days ago. I'm working on my third full day. I have back issues, hip issues, knee issues, and carpal tunnel issues. ALL GONE. The chair works for me on the lowest setting in my cubicle. I follow the instructions, which is to lean forward a bit, do not sit straight up. It's definitely correcting my posture. I have FULL freedom of movement, which helps to relax the muscles, or I can hold my muscles taught and get a workout without having to stop my actual work tasks! (I call it my "weeble wobble" and feel like a little kid having fun!) What! Awesome! It's helping the carpal tunnel issue due to proper posture and now being a proper height that accommodates both my short legs (easing stress on my hip and knee arthritis), but high enough for my arms to be at a proper, soft 90-degree angle. Beautiful! I adapt easily to new stuff, so it may take someone else longer to adjust to sitting actively, but it's SOOOOOOOOOO worth it in the end! I've now shown several people how to properly use this chair and ALL are interested. Buy this!

I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting to like this. I have a nice standing desk and have long been a proponent of standing desks. However, due to recent chronic pain illnesses (hip injury + Bertolotti's Syndrome), standing for extended periods has become quite uncomfortable for me. Unfortunately, sitting in a chair with a back for shorter periods also causes significant lower back discomfort. In the past, I tried sitting on yoga balls, which are probably most similar to this chair. Unfortunately, yoga balls still caused me discomfort and were awkward in other ways, such as taking up too much space. I was certain this chair would cause the same discomfort as yoga balls, but I was wrong! This little guy is not only very attractive, making my work area look much more open, but the free motion of it is great for my lower back pain. I can move my legs and hips around while sitting to give my joints some motion, which helps with the chronic pain. However, the cushion isn't super comfortable, but that's okay for my purposes. I regularly set a timer in my kitchen for 20-30 minutes that forces me to get up and turn it off, and the design of this chair makes it very easy to get up from. Overall, I'm happy. There are more expensive versions of this chair out there that are probably more comfortable, but for my needs and price range, this was the best option I researched. It's a cinch to assemble. It's very well-built, and I have no concerns about its durability, except for maybe the cushion become too flat within a year. I'll revise my review if it seems like it flattens out too quickly.

I have a Vari-Desk at work and after a year of popping it up and down when I got tired of standing and sitting, I finally decided to invest in an adjustable stool. I read (and re-read) the reviews and decide to purchase the Learniture Adjustable-Height Active Learning stool as I didn't want to pay almost double for a Vari-Desk stool. I've got mixed feelings about the stool - therefore the three stars. Cons: * The stool came with NO instructions as to how to assemble. I had to figure it out, and figured it out wrong at first. * Trying to dis-assemble the chair (to assemble it correctly) was a beast. Yes, it is as simple as taking it apart as it was put together *HOWEVER* there is a bit of a trick to it. I had to extend the stool to the full height and then pulled with even pressure on the seat while pushing on the base with my feet. The seat finally popped off after some effort. I was then able to assemble it properly. * A nice hunk of plastic broke off the base in shipment. Nothing some Gorilla Glue won't fix, but still irritating. :/ * It doesn't extend as high as I would like. I can't quite pop the Vari-Desk up as high as I would like as the stool is too short. Note: I'm 5'5" so anyone taller than me probably out to look for another option before buying this stool. Pros: * The seat is comfortable enough for a break from standing. * The grey color fits in well with my office décor * It is easy to raise and lower. Once raised, if you sit on it and push the buttons underneath the seat, it will lower with no problem. * The price takes away a bit of the sting of the cons listed above...but only a bit. Knowing what I know now, I would spend the extra money and get the Vari-Desk stool. That being said, it's too big a hassle to return this item so I'm going to hang on to it. I thought I would share my experience however with others so that you don't have to learn the same things I just learned - the hard way - despite reading (and re-reading) reviews. ——————————————————————— 📝 NOTES: - When assembling the stool, the grey plastic collar that gets pressed onto the underside of the top doesn’t snap into place easily (at least, not for me)—it’s not the type of part that you can tap on with a mallet, either…only a firm PRESS will do, so though I don’t consider myself weak (relatively speaking), what finally did work was when I laid the seat top down on the rug, then sat the collar on top of it, and while supporting the collar to remain upright & level, LAID ON TOP OF IT and pressed my bodyweight into it, FINALLY snapping it on. 😀 🙌 Assembly requires only 3 steps, and the stool comes together in a couple minutes (esp. since you now know to lay your body over the plastic collar, if you can’t snap it on with your hand & arms alone). - Scoot your bum all the way to the back, if you want to be centered over the stool. If you typically like to sit towards the front edge, you’ll be leaning forward, which is fine if that’s what you want, in which case your feet will be on the floor. If you want to rest your feet on the base of the stool, scoot back on the seat, and your center of gravity will allow it. - This stool is built to last! All quality components, and weighted down to provide assurance that unless you really try, you will NOT be tipping over. - The pneumatic mechanism is very responsive, allowing you to smoothly raise & lower the stool in a 9-inch range. I’m just under 5’2”, with a 28” inseam, and I would need the stool at the lowest level to be able to safely keep contact with the floor. Even if you’re over a foot taller than I am, you’ll still have plenty of room for your legs with this height-adjustable wobble stool. - I have no cush in my tush, and find the semi-firm padding on the seat to be plenty comfortable, but because this stool receives mixed reviews on that topic (ie, will it be comfortable to use for HOURS), it’d be best to try one out first, if you have the access & opportunity to do so. - Seat material is easy to clean—a quick wipe is all thats needed, and it comes in different colors, so choose the one that works for you. ——— I would consider this a premium product, and highly-recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a backless stool that swivels. It doesn’t roll, so if that’s a requirement, this isn’t for you, but if you’re like me and enjoy (or need) to rock in your chair, such as when your brain is activated and your body wants to move, this stool will allow you to release that pent-up energy & keep those thoughts flowing (thus facilitating work flow). If you’re a fan of rocking chairs, but wished that it didn’t have a back, this stool is certainly worthy of your consideration. 👍
