  • XB273K V5bmiiprx Acer Predator Monitor
Size: 27-inch 320Hz
This monitor has some slight quirks but overall I would say it is a very good monitor for the price. I was looking for a high refresh rate and 4k monitor and this Acer Predator v5 with DFR tech seemed great for the money. I have previously used an Acer 1080p monitor for a long time and was very happy with the quality of that monitor so I tried this one. I am happy with the features on this one. A thing to note is that when you turn on HDR mode, it disables the other picture settings. Also in HDR mode, it doesn't allow to save the settings to one of its 3 setting options. I haven't used the saved settings options much because it comes with a great handheld control fob. I find myself using this thing quite a lot to fiddle with the monitor controls to test out the various functions. The fob has a button to alternate between the current saved setting and the previous one. I use it to alternate between the 1080p 320hz DFR for gaming and 2160p 160hz for desktop or movies. This monitor has a surprising amount of useful functions that I didn't expect. In 320hz 1080p mode if your graphics card is displaying framerate high enough, it might appear a little blurry if you don't turn on the gaming mode overcharge and VRB settings. This is what they are designed for. It should be noted that if you use VRB, it disables the Freesync premium, so it might be recommended to only use freesync on games with lower refresh rates. As far as what was included in the box, it came with the stand, which has a vertical and swivel adjustment. It also came with a 3ft power cord and a 3ft hdmi cable. So if you need longer cables or a displayport cable, you need to buy them separately. I personally had a 80gbps displayport cable that I had bought and the included power cable was just long enough for me. The power cable is the kind that is just like you plug into PC power supplies. For picture quality, it's a standard backlight LCD AFAIK. It has brightness and color options, including a low bluelight option. It also has many color save options. It also has a special black level slider that goes from 0-10 but it just seemed to make the monitor lighter or darker to me. It didn't seem to make the blacks more dark in my estimation. The monitor, by default, searches the various video channels for a picture when the computer turns on. This can be disabled in the monitor settings. It also goes into standby no picture low power mode when the computer instructs it to do so. The screen just turns off when this happens and the power light turns from blue to yellow to indicate so. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase. Acer monitors have a very high quality control and they come with a 3 year warranty. Can't really ask for more. ... show more

  • Working Class Hero for Work From Home Gamers
Size: 27-inch 320Hz
This monitor fills a niche that meets my needs perfectly. I wanted a bright, non-glossy 4k monitor for work, but that would also be a sensible monitor for gaming. I was open to spending up to $1000 if there was a perfect fit that would be worth it, but OLEDs are glossy and not bright enough to be ideal for my work environment, and mini LED monitors seem to have quality control issues while commanding a substantial premium. This led me to looking for a good classic IPS, which led me to the Alienware with the same DFR functionality as this, which led me to this. The Good - Bright image (ballparking mine at ~450 nits with Max Brightness mode enabled) with beautiful colors and the most even backlighting I've seen on a standard IPS. Looks great even with tons of natural light coming into my space from all sides. - High refresh rate functionality works well in both 4k and FHD. - I like the ability to switch the 'native' resolution. I find PC gaming tends to work best at native resolution, so since my 4060 is best for FHD gaming, this provides a very smooth gaming experience. I think games look great at FHD, but desktop apps definitely suffer, so you'll want to live with 160Hz for Excel. - The included remote is a nice bonus. The design seems a bit odd and like it was supposed to be a gaming accessory of some sort, but it's convenient enough that I use it all the time. - Speakers The Not So Good - As some other reviewers have mentioned, the included VESA screws are weirdly a bit short, and didn't quite work for my monitor arm. Fortunately I had some alternative screws, but still something to be aware of. - Weird gaps in the back of the monitor around the VESA mounting area. It won't be an issue for most, but I accidentally dropped a screw that fell inside the monitor, and despite 25 minutes of shaking it around like a madman, I wasn't able to get it out. It doesn't seem to have caused any issues, but it's odd that there are such large holes that screws and other objects can easily fall inside and become trapped. - I'm not using the included stand, but just look at it. Monitor stand base designs have been solved Acer, just go with the weighted square/circle/hexagon/octagon. - DFR modes can be a bit picky about cables/ports. I've had the best success with a quality DisplayPort cable. The included HDMI cable reliably works at 4k160 for me, but FHD320 doesn't always work, though it does via DisplayPort. - Speakers While this monitor isn't perfect, the image quality and high refresh rate experience has exceeded the relatively high expectations I had for it. At the price, I think this is a no-brainer if you want a hybrid work/gaming monitor that won't break the bank. ... show more
