Originally introduced in 2016, Abercrombie & Fitch's First Instinct Eau de Toilette has become a well-known and favorite fragrance among discerning men. Designed by perfumer, Phillippe Romano, this scent features top notes of aromatic gin & tonic accord combined with Kiwano melon; middle notes offering spicy Szechuan pepper, airy violet leaves and tangy citrus; and base notes of sueded musk with raw amber. The clear glass bottle with silver-grey juice has the appearance of undulating water. A silver plate displaying the brand and fragrance names adorns the side of the bottle which is completed by a striated silver cap.

To me, fragrances are an added layer of self expression. You wouldn't know it by looking at me, but I do like weirder and more unique things. Not all the time, but sometimes. This fragrances absolutely fits that bill. What intrigued me was the "melon opening." Boy was I not let down. It is yummy. I practically want to start biting my wrists thinking it's made of melon. If you're wondering what kind of melon it smells like, I'd definitely say it leans more towards cantaloupe. Ripe cantaloupe. Specifically the super soft, uber flavorful cantaloupe that practically melts in your mouth. Now add just a tiny dash of peppery spiciness. Boom there you go. Now, my biggest grip with this fragrance is that it's amazing opener....is....the opener. I really wish that stuck for a long time. But it doesn't. That opener lasts for a couple/few hours and then it's gone. It also doesn't really project that much when it is "strong." So what does the scent evolve into after the melon? Honestly, no clue. It's so subtle I really can't tell. After the first couple/few hours pass, I can't really smell much of anything. Mostly like a hint of melon and spice. But that's really it. Honestly it is a little disappointing. So what happens if you over spray? Good question. It didn't improve the overall length of the fragrance's life. However, projection definitely got a lot better. Originally I'd say it'd be a 6in-1ft if that. After over spraying it was easily 1ft-1.5ft. And the scent bubble was definitely stronger. But again, the overall life was the same. And even sadder still, I couldn't really get anything else out of the scent. Once it's gone I got the same hint of melon along with a general sweetness. Which was pleasant. But it's also a skin scent. Is it worth the buy? Maybe. Price is okay in my book. Longevity just sucks. I think that's the biggest crutch. The smell itself is also really unique. If that's important to you, I'd say get it. If you're wondering where the hell you would wear this fragrance, I'd say anywhere really. It'd be a decent office scent if your office is more laid back. It'd be great for the spring or a cool summer's night. A day at the lake. Probably could get away with it at the beach too. If you don't like overpowering your date or if you think you two are going to be snuggling up later, this definitely won't blast them in the face to the point they have a headache. They will be aware that it's there, and they will enjoy it. You might not get a compliment, but they'll subconsciously know it's there and will enjoy it at the very least. TL;DR: If you wanna smell unique, go for it. If you don't want to overpower your date but still want to wear something fresh and sweet, go for it. Oh, and I gotta say this is easily my favorite bottle in my small growing collection of fragrances. It's really really nice.

Scent is really nice- you can smell a watermelon/cucumber flavour (not sure which one, leaning more towards cucumber), projection is super weak though, even after 15-20 sprays on both my body and clothes. Still smells on clothing 12 hours after, just won't be picked up by others without getting extremely close. EDIT: The projection is actually decent enough... Got an attractive lady pass by me two days ago and said she smelled a strong cologne, then she came closer and gave me a compliment mentioning that it smelled nice

I used to wear this wonderful cologne and the ladies loved it. But this one had a defective cap that flew off and then I couldn't find it and now the bottle just sits on my dresser and I cant use it. Made me sad.
