  • Loved it!
Wonderful story and great characters. Lots of thought-provoking insights on family, identity, finding home, trusting God vs obeying the rules, and love. Great read at Christmas time or any time of the year!

  • Rose's Christmas gift
A wonderful story of Rose and Jonathan"s search for their true self and their love for their Amish roots and community. Loved how they finally turned it over to God and found peace. It meant even more to me that it was based on a true story. Highly recommend.

  • The rescued had also become a rescuer
A sweet story set in Amish Ohio just after WWII, set in motion by a true story the author knew about.

  • A Christmas Gift for Rose was Special!
A Christmas Gift for Rose Tricia Goyer Book Summary: Award-winning author Tricia Goyer writes a heartwarming novel of faith and family in her first Christmas novella. Born in the midst of the hardships of The Great Depression, Rose grew up in Berlin, Ohio, in the arms of a loving Amish family. But she is overwhelmed by self-doubt when she learns the truth of her birth. She was born Englisch and abandoned when her family moved West in search of work. Was she meant to be Amish, or would she have been better off growing up with her own kind---Englischers? And was her intended's gift of discovering her birth family given out of love or fear? Inspired by a true story, A Christmas Gift for Rose is a heartwarming novella of sacrifice and deep love. Review: This was a sweet and wonderfully written story about family, faith and love. A love that transcends our earthly relationships and shine on the love of God. It was inspiring and gave me much to ponder. Rose and her Amish parents were so well written that I felt like the room cam alive with them and their home. The landscape and events were so vivid that it was very real. Rose’s struggle and those of the other characters was very moving. It celebrating the true spirit of Christmas self sacrificial love. I would like to thank Net Galley and Zondervan Fiction for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone. ... show more

  • A Christmas Gift for Rose is a must read!
Rose was certain that when her intended left to join the military he would not return. She had assumed he had left not only her but the Amish community. She just knew he had turned away from the Amish beliefs. When he did return she did not want to see him because he had done the unforgivable by choosing to live among the Englisch. When she uncovers a secret about her past she fears her own place in the Amish community may b e under scrutiny. The cover image drew me in and once I opened the book I did not want to put it down. The author held my attention with the suspense and heartache of so many that surrounded Rose. The love of her family was far stronger that she gave them credit. Her beau loved her deeply and was so patient with her many doubts and fears of her future. Loved the book from beginning to end. I highly recommend this book. Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book from Zondervan/Lifuse Publicity Group for review. I was in no way compensated for this review. This is review is my honest opinion. ... show more

  • Fantastic Amish Romance!!!!!
Tricia Goyer is one of my favorite authors. This isn't the first book I have read by her and it won't be the last. I want to say that the Book Description is a good one. It gives enough info to know what the story is about without giving too much away. I loved this book. I loved Rose and Jonathon's story with all it's twists and turns. I loved that once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. This is the first Amish romance that I read where an Amish man joined up to be a medic during WWII because he felt he needed to help. Being a medic he wouldn't have to use a weapon and aim to kill someone. This was a fascinating well written story. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK! ... show more

  • Do you feel you are questioning who you are? Then this is the book for you.
I needed tissues for the message was so POWERFUL!! I loved this book, but then I have loved reading all of Tricia Goyer's Amish books. The way that God moves through Tricia Goyer's writing to send/give us, readers, His message . . . is His miracle. Do you feel your soul, maybe your heart, and or maybe your faith is being questioned? Then I highly recommend this book and no it does not have to be Christmas to read it. I can tell you this, the message was one that I needed to read by the end of the book. "'Thank you for reminding me that the future is in God's hands.'" "'You're welcome. And remember, wherever you go, in body and mind, you simply need to call out to God and He is there.'"--quote from the book. Thank you to all of Tricia Goyer's publishing team, and her agent for seeing that her book got published.. ... show more

  • sweet but cloying
This is a sweet story based on an anecdote the author heard. But a little overdone in the 'sweetness' department. I found everything from coincidences to Rose's feelings to be exaggerated. I read it because someone in our book club had chosen it for our Dec. meeting, otherwise I would have closed it after chapter one and moved on. It will appeal to readers who are always looking for a happy ending rather than a reflection of real life. ... show more
