  • Classic Snes Controller Restoration Classic Snes Controller Restoration
Style: Adapter
I had to research more about this product before I made my purchase. I was going to purchase the official Snes bluetooth controller from Nintendo, but I am glad I didn't because I found my original snes controller I bought in the 90s. What better way to play classic with the original classic hardware on your Switch. Wow, I made the right choice! I was simply amaze how easy this product is to use the moment I plugged in my Snes classic controller along with an adapter. I am one of those gamers who don't read the Manual and just plug in. Amaze how easy it is to use the moment I got the hang of it. Simple plug and play for the Nintendo Switch. Theres two switches the X is used for pc or android and the S is for the Switch. The signal was incredible, having my old snes controller I got from the 90s along with an adapter and with this 8bitdo gbros restored my controller back to life. No latency issues when I play platformer games like Celeste or Hollow Knight. I tried it on the Snes online for the Switch to play Super Mario and the signal is flawless. This is simply amazing, even using it on the pc works with lots of 2d side scrolling games like Gris or with your android devices like the tablet. I am in awe how amazing this little product is. The design is simply amazing for the Gamecube fans. This product overall brings wonders in restoring your classic Snes controller and Gamecube back to life. You get the classic feeling along with the original hardware you purchased in the 90s. Take note that you can go full wireless using batteries or you can just plug in using the usb adapter it comes with. You will be amaze how easy it is to use this product and how the quality of Nintendo hardware lives to date. Stay classic and use this adapter to go wireless. ... show more

  • It's great but has a few downfalls
Style: Adapter
If you want to use it to connect your Wii controllers and Gamecube controllers to the Switch, then it does a great job. No input lag, at least from my experience. Works great! But I'll just make a pro and con list to explain the good and bad PROS: -Uses Double AA batteries which last a good while. -Supports Rumble for Gamecube controllers. -No input lag. -Firmware is update-able Cons: -Buttons are not really labeled to where it makes it easy to know what they do. which makes it so I have to refer to the manual to figure out how to sync with the switch. Its a small process to sync the controller, not too difficult but does require referring to the manual. What they should have done is add a little sync cheat sheet inside the battery case. -The green button sticks out way too much. And on the switch it works as the screenshot button. I cant recall just how many times where the button gets pressed on its own when moved around while hanging on the end of the controller and causing a screenshot to be taken. -far as I'm aware you cant turn off rumble feature on GC controller unless the controller itself has that option. -Should have made it with some molded on rubber outer casing because it can tend to get a bit of a beating being on the end of a controller wire when the kids use it. Havent tried it on PC but claims it supports both type of inputs. Which is a plus. Haven't tried multiples of these. And I am aware that there are some 8-bitdo wireless accessories that dont tend to work properly when using more than one at a time. Maybe they interfere each other. If I get a second one, I'll test that out. ... show more

  • Awesome Product for Raspberry Pi 3b+!
Style: Adapter
I have a Raspberry Pi 3B+ running Retropie. I bought this so that I could connect a Wii Classic Controller to the Pi wirelessly. What can I say? It works like a charm! This is an amazing little product. You just plug the controller in, get the Bluetooth set up within Retropie, and you're good to go. I like this thing a lot, because it feels sturdy, not made of super-cheap plastic. Also, it uses 2 AA batteries instead of USB charging, which is awesome. I hate when devices have built-in charges. With this, I can use rechargeable batteries and they work great. My only quibble is that the place that holds the batteries feels really tight. It can be a bit hard to get the batteries into there. But it's only a minor gripe. I haven't used the Gamecube controller port yet, but I plan to. These things are so good, I've ordered 2 more of them. I plan to set up 3 of them for multiplayer games on the Pi. If you are setting up a Raspberry Pi gaming station, and if you already have some Wii Classic controllers or Gamecube controllers laying around, and you are not looking forward YET AGAIN to buying more controllers, then this is the product for you! Just make sure your Raspberry Pi has Bluetooth, or you might have to buy a separate dongle for that. Highly Recommended! P.S. Be careful about whether or not you do a firmware update on this with Retropie. I updated the firmware on all my adapters, and that immediately broke all my Bluetooth connections. I tried to delete my controllers and re-add them, but my Pi wouldn’t even see them broadcasting any Bluetooth signal at all. Luckily, the 8bitdo website lets you choose your firmware package. So I experimented with lower update numbers. The only one that would work with my Pi was the lowest setting, which I think was version 2.12. The highest version is 2.24 right now I think? Updating them was a BAD experience that wasted hours of my time so if your using this with a Pi 3B+, do yourself a favor and DON’T update it! ... show more

  • Update your firmware!
Style: Adapter
This is a great little device that lets me connect my old GameCube controllers with a few quirks, most of which are resolved by an update of the device firmware. - connects to the Nintendo Switch as a Pro Controller instead of a GameCube controller as occurs when connecting via the official USB adapter from Nintendo - connecting the device to the Nintendo Switch via USB causes a crash (RESOLVED IN FIRMWARE 2.10) - [Z] button is mapped to the [R] button and the [L] and [R] buttons are mapped to [LZ] and [RZ] respectively (RESOLVED IN FIRMWARE 2.12) My biggest issue was obviously that the shoulder button mappings were not what I was expecting. I suspect that this is because they mapped the buttons shoulder buttons based on their physical location on the GameCube controller relative to the Pro controller rather than by name. However, by installing the most recent firmware update which is version 2.20 as of this writing, a function to toggle between the Pro and GameCube controller mappings was made available. By pressing [L]+[R]+[B]+[A]+[Start], the adapter LED will flash either Green for the GameCube mapping or Red for the Pro controller mapping. I have seen a review or two on here indicating that the adapter is not working for the most recent release of the GameCube controller. Based on the firmware patch notes, I believe that version 2.20 may have fixed the connection issues they where experiencing. I have confirmed that this works with the original GameCube generation controllers as well as Wii-U generation GameCube controllers. I have not tested with the most recent generation of GameCube controllers and I will update after I do. As an aside, I've also seen many people asking about analog input for the [L] and [R] buttons. While not available when connected to the Nintendo Switch, Firmware version 2.20 added analog functionality to these buttons when connecting via Xinput mode for other devices. UPDATE 01/13/2019 I loaned my adapter to my co worker who bought the brand new SSMB Ultimate edition GameCube controller while he waits for his 4 port adapter to come in. He has had no issues with the adapter ... show more

  • A great addition to the Switch!
Style: Adapter
This is a great product! It works great for what I need, a great addition for any switch owner. I originally bought it for SMASH BROS. But quickly made it my go to for almost all my games, the Switch lack a proper D-pad and I find the buttons to small on the joy cons so I use the GameCube port to fix that problem and I find myself using the other controller port on this which is the same as the Wii mote port that you also find on the “classic” consoles so I use the snes and nes controllers that came with my nes and snes classic to play games that don’t require the additional shoulder buttons (ZL, ZR) great for old school platformers and fighting games that you can buy on the Nintendo E-shop. The battery life on this is amazing it does require 2 AAs but I’ve been using it nonstop and still haven’t needed to change them In addition to all that it also features a home button, and the snap shot button that lets ya take photos and video of your gameplay on the switch so working the home screen menu button easy. This is a great product well built and I would recommend it to any Switch owner, it’s also a great alternative to buying a pro controller if ya have a GameCube or “Classic” console controllers laying around. ... show more

  • Works great... if you get a good one.
Style: Adapter
I bought two of these. One for me and my wife. The first one I opened up, put batteries in, plugged in my GCN controller and it paired quickly. I booted up Smash Bros. and went to the controller configuration to make sure everything is mapped correctly for my profile. Mysteriously several buttons simply didn't work. I switched GCN controllers and the same issue persisted. I started to see incredibly weird inputs happen. Screenshots were being randomly taken, buttons were being "held" even though I wasn't touching the controller, etc. At this point I picked up the adapter and realized the connection between the GCN controller and the Gbros. adapter was a bit loose. Incredibly tiny movements made by gripping the plug and wiggling it resulting in a flurry of random inputs being fired. Multiple screenshots, Home button presses, directions, etc. At this point, I opened up the second adapter I bought and got it setup. Everything worked perfectly. Buttons, connection, etc. No misfires, no missed inputs, all buttons worked. Clearly the first one was faulty. I RMA'd it this morning and the replacement from Amazon isn't going to arrive until sometime in January. Really disappointing for a product that launched 5 days ago. Problems happen in manufacturing. That is understandable. But 4-6 weeks for a replacement is crazy. 3 stars for now due to shoddy workmanship and bad customer service. If the replacement when it arrives works properly, I'll bump it to 4 stars because when it works the product is really great and solves a need many people have using a real, first party GCN controller with the Switch wirelessly. Update: Not sure what happened but my replacement order magically went from mid-end of January for delivery to yesterday. Replacement adapter works perfectly. Bumping my review to 4 stars. If it ends up working as it's supposed to for the next few months, I'll chalk up this defective one as a fluke and bump it to 5 stars. It really does work flawlessly when it works. ... show more

  • Works with rechargeable NiMh AA batteries, but will constantly blink red as if battery is low
Style: Adapter
I bought this to use my old Gamecube controllers on my Switch. I'm happy that it works with rechargeable NiMh batteries, but of course it always thinks the batteries are low. Otherwise, it works through most of the range provided by these batteries. It does not work with wavebird controllers. The receiver won't physically fit into the socket. When I use an extension cord to plug it in, it won't respond to any input. It doesn't make much sense to me to use this controller anyway unless I can wire it directly to the Switch. Which brings me to the next issue I have had... Plugging the USB connection into the Switch does not work! The Switch crashes whenever I try to plug it in. Wired connection works fine on my laptop and Android phone though. It can be powered entirely off of USB power instead of batteries, but it switches to wired mode and shuts off the wireless radio when plugged in. It makes no sense to try plugging it into a USB power bank. I can't ding them for the above issues, really. The title and description clearly state that it works for "wired" and "classic" editions, and it says it connects to Switch wirelessly with no mention of the wired feature. I found on their support website that pressing L+R+A+B+Start will swap ZR and R buttons and make the L button ZL. This better matches the Switch configuration of buttons. This setting seems to persist after shutting it off, so there is no need to redo it every time you turn it on. ... show more

  • Great idea, great look, disapointed with GCN controller on Switch (3D Allstars)
Style: Adapter
This is a great idea for making old controllers usable for the Switch, and the look and design are top notch. It was also a great idea idea to include buttons missing from modern controller is also a great idea (would've been even better if they included a ZL). This is something I really wanted. This adapter converts the input and converts it to pro-controller input for Switch (in Switch mode). This caused problem with the gamecube controller with the left analog stick and the triggers (L&R). I found in this mode the analog stick reached maximum output before it neared the outer ring, making movement more difficult to fine tune. The L&R no longer allow a full-pull input. I only tested this on Sunshine (in the 3D All-stars bundle), but that is a game that needs finely tuned movement and there are actions that come from full pulls; the game supports a gamecube controller... but this adapter instead mimics a pro-controller. As much as I love the idea and the design, this product was not for me. ... show more
