Out of the box this was easy to figure out. The hard part was adjusting the iPhone in the holder so the camera eye aligned correctly. Once I got that right, it was easy. You have to be patient and keep trying. Read the instructions about turning the eye piece because that will let you see through the monocular. Be patient with the first time you try to adjust the phone camera to line up. I almost gave up, but didn't. On the phone mount, I tightened the knob that holds the phone holder at an angle so that I don't have to adjust that angle again. I use the Zoom on the iPhone also, so that the photo doesn't end up in a circle, and also so that I am even closer. I am loving these photos - so much closer than just with the iPhone. I wasn't using the tripod, but I was anchoring against something or on something, because of course when you are magnifying that much, a tiny shake of your hand makes everything move! The tripod is really a nice quality and I can set it on a table next to my window. This is a very inexpensive way to improve the photos I am taking with my iPhone. I would not expect to get professional quality shots as one would with a professional camera. But the type of digital camera that has the zoom ability I would want and the quickness of taking the actual shot, are at least $5,000. Cheap digital cameras are slow. By the time it actually takes the photo, that millisecond delay makes you lose the shot. iPhone cameras don't have that delay, or if there is one, it is unnoticeable. But iPhone cameras aren't able to zoom in enough while keeping the image sharp. While a few of the photos I took (some of the first ones are uploaded here) could have been crisper, I'm getting more practice. I got this to do some local birdwatching while walking my dog. I’m very happy with it. It has a belt loop on the case so I can wear it on my waist with no added weight on my neck or shoulder. If your coat has large pockets it will fit inside with the case. The magnification is very good. I can see many details on birds’ feathers and watch feeding with so much clarity. It is lightweight and easy to hold and focus with one hand so I can use it while holding my dog’s leash with my other hand. There is also a wrist strap to give some security if by any chance you lose your grip on it. The cover on the large end is attached and folds down. The rubber eyepiece cover is not attached but there is a loop on it. I used the strap from an old luggage tag to attach it to the loop for the wrist strap so I would not lose that cover. Only bothered because I had immediately lost one rubber lens cover from a pair of binoculars I had also bought. I have recommended this to a friend who just told me her husband loves it. Item listed as 80x100 high power, and in the description says “80 times magnification”. Beware, as actual magnification was about the same as my binoculars which are 8X. Other than that it is very well made with nice optics.
