It can cultivate the performer's musical cells, exercise hand-eye coordination, and promote the development of the left and right brains.
  • High Quality Premium Wood8-note wooden xylophone, made of high-quality wood, round shape and smooth surface. The edges are polished and burr-free, which protects the skin from scratches and won't hurt your hands.

  • Basic percussion instrument. but will need work to get to A440
I have the 8 note testing version of this xylophone. It is a simple instrument tuned close to C6 major (C6 to C7). All of the notes are at least a few cents flat, some by quite a lot. A6 is the closest on my set. Because these "keys" are wood and are secured by normal Phillips head screws, I plan to remove them and sand off enough to get them closer to their pure tones. Another thing worth noting is that while the lower notes have some sustain, the higher (smaller) "keys" are pretty dampened. I'm not an expert on xylophones, so this may be normal. That said, it is also possible that the screws used to hold the individual wood bars in place may be reducing their ability to have any sustain. The screws are not tight, but their threading is still usually in contact with the "keys" and that friction may be enough. I may try replacing them with simple metal pegs to help improve the tone. Note: this is NOT a glockenspiel. A glockenspiel resembles a xylophone, but it is made with metal (usually steel) bars. It has a bright, ringing tone similar to tuned bells. While this could become a nice instrument, it will require work on the part of the owner. As such I can only offer a qualified recommendation. ... show more

  • Great for introduction to musical instruments
The media could not be loaded. This is an inexpensive xylophone with a very nice build. It is the type of instrument you introduce your children to, why? They learn to create melodies and also copy some, they build hand eye coordination. The size is just right for anyone to enjoy. Durable and beautiful and sound very good. I added a video just so you can hear the sound (doesn’t sound like a toy but a real xylophone) and see that it is a serious deal! You can not go wrong with this, as it is a all round great deal! ... show more

  • more a toy than a true instrument
I don't know why I get my hopes up when ordering things like this. I keep imagining I'm going to be able to use this when recording but, ultimately, I get disappointed. Granted, this Xylophone only has eight 'notes,' so limitations are already built into it, but to my ears, it's also quite harsh in tone, i.e. not exactly musical. That moves it into the realm of being a toy more than a true musical instrument. Even as a toy, would you want to listen to a child hammering on this even for five minutes? Probably not but, fortunately, I anticipate they will get bored with it before that point. Is there any value in this product? Perhaps, if you have a child transitioning from 'everything's percussion' to musical awareness and, at this price point, perhaps that's still useful. For me, however, it's usefulness is limited. My bad. Three stars. ... show more

  • poor quality
The media could not be loaded. Not put together very well, and sounds a bit clunky, but then again it IS a wooden xylophone and not a metal one. Take a quick listen to my video and decide for yourself. The poor workmanship is really just a misaligned screw, but for some people the little details matter. To me, this seems like it shouldn't have passed the quality inspector... ... show more

  • Muted, flat tones. Hard to strike a good note. Kid's toy at best.
The item reviewed is an 8 Note Wooden Glockenspiel Xylophone With 2 Wooden Mallets (9.5 inch) by LyricLight. While the mahogany materials used are nice and the assembly is OK, there is no real attention focused on getting any usable tones out of this item. The design falls as flat as the noise it makes. The mallets are light plastic (not wooden as listed) and require a heavy striking force to get close to a tone. This may be better suited as a toy for children of ages 8 and up. ... show more

  • Nice basic xylophone
This is a nice simple 8 note xylophone. It looks really nice and has good tone. It is good for kids or for very simple accompaniment. For better tone you might want to replace the mallets with better ones.

  • Awesome xylo!
The media could not be loaded. This is a great little xylophone! The 8 notes are well tuned and respond with a light tap of the mallet. The mallets are plastic which is fine with me. My wife does Alzheimers care and her residents spend lots of time having fun with this instrument. For the money I think it is a great value. I posted a video so that you can hear the notes. ... show more

  • Basic toy xylophone
This xylophone might be ok as a kid's toy, but it is not in tune and the plastic mallets give a rather harsh sound. The design of the instrument seems kind of clunky. The bars are not rounded so you'll need to be careful of the sharp corners.
