Much like many of you, I suffered from SGS (Sagging Gate Syndrome). The gate on my backyard fence is just over 5 feet wide, and when new, fit and closed perfectly. Since then, 5 years of rain, snow sleet, hail and summer heat have wreaked havoc on the integrity of my gate, requiring it to be lifted into position on its locking mechanism. But those days are over my friends! I am no longer plagued by SDS! No longer am I embarrassed to have my friends and family come over and see my pathetic, flaccid, sagging gate! The build quality of this thing is amazingly solid. Solid steel, Solid hard rubber, and solid hardware are the qualities that will keep it from deteriorating in the elements. The wheel locking mechanism is a nice touch that allows me to keep the gate propped open without the broken cinder block that I was using before. Did I mention that it is adjustable? There's a bolt on top that you can use to fine tune the height once installed. There is one tiny drawback. This caster needs to roll on a hard surface. I used it in the grass for the first few weeks, and while it worked fine, it tended to dig into the soft, dry sandy soil around my gate. The solution can be seen in my picture. I highly recommend this beast of caster to keep your SGS in check!

An old farm tube gate is on the entrance to our place and while it's well supported with a steel post set in concrete, we've long been concerned about potential sagging. So when the HARVOST 8 Inch Gate Wheel showed up on Amazon Vine, it seemed well-worth reviewing. On arrival, we were impressed by the wheel's size, design and construction. This is no lightweight piece of junk but a heavy duty product made to stand up to use, weather and abuse. Mounting the wheel on our gate was easy but getting it adjusted for the uneven ground next to our driveway entrance took some fiddling. After that, it worked flawlessly and provided the support our gate needed. Overall, the HARVOST 8 Inch Gate Wheel is exactly what we were looking for. It's a great, well-made product.

The media could not be loaded. Overall, this is an ok wheel. It has good support and does what it is supposed to do. Here are my issues and another explanation as to why I gave it 3 stars. The wheel itself is bigger than the mount so you cannot flush mount this to a gate where the gate is only an inch off of the ground. What I mean is depending on what side of your gate you mount it, the wheel will hit the gate and didn't allow it to move. This is because the the mount that holds the wheel at the top does not allow enough space between the gate and back of the wheel for the wheel to spin. You can of course put a block of wood between the plate of the wheel mount and your gate but then the U bolts that came with it may not be deep enough so you will have to buy new bolts if you have to put any spacer plate between the wheel and your gate. The brake is very good and holds my 6ft gate open in moderate wind. The tire leaves black marks on my pavers just after 1 use so honestly I wont be using this wheel on my gate/driveway as it's just going to make it look terrible. Now, even with multiple spacers, boards and trying to install it on both sides of my gate, this didn't work for me. However, I could do a little more rigging and get it to function but I will not because I don't want the tire marks on my driveway. For others, this may be perfect for them. But at least you know the struggles I had and you can prepare for them. I'd recommend larger U bolts and also make yourself a template of the bolts/hole placement. I also love that you can easily grease this unit. Suggestions for the seller is I would put deeper U bolts in with this unit and allow your customers to saw off the extra depth if needed.

I have a gate I had to build over some "pavement" between my garage and house. I have had other wheels and none compare to this. This wheel is a true off road wheel, meant for difficult terrain. The entire unit is pretty heavy for what you're expecting. The wheel is the size of a cantaloupe and the tread is big and thick, there is no concern of the wheel not moving over ANY terrain. The arm that connects the wheel to whatever your connecting it to is equally sturdy, the metal is thick, and heavy. There is no concern that any part of the body of the wheels base while wearing quickly. The spring itself is hefty. The spring is as thick and durable as every other part of this piece. I'm pretty sure this will outlast me and my kids. So long as I keep it grease, via the grease nipple above the wheel. This surpassed my expectations.
