    • Well-built, just a solid notebook
The quality of the paper is really great and there's a lot of pages to write on. The paper feels very smooth and it takes ink pretty well. The paper also seems pretty heavy-duty and not cheap at all. The pages are bonded very securely to the book and overall the notebook seems pretty solid to me.

My favorite thing about these journals is that the leather is very soft and supple. Not cheap and cardboard like. This is a very good deal for six! I bought them for gifts to go with some lovely pens. The pages are nice and thick and there is a built in bookmark ribbon as well as a built in binder to hold the journal shut. ... show more

    • Nice, Soft Cover, Pages ARE thick, bound well.
As a teacher, I need to keep track of things I need to do. The last thing I want is for my students to think of me with no integrity. That means I need a reliable book that will not fall apart as I bring it to faculty meetings, meetings with community industry, meetings with industry groups, etc., all of which require it to be carried, transported in my computer bag, kept on my desk as many things get piled on it - you get the idea. This will absolutely hold up to what I will throw at it. I say this after having a number of journal notebooks, some of which did not stand up for various reasons. I found the worst and most common reason is when the cover falls apart, which can be detected by how robust the hinge is on the covers (is it thin, perhaps too rigid, has stitching where it folds, or is made of inferior material). I have also found binding to be another failure point. If the binding is stitched, then glued, then it will stand up providing there is sufficient glue and thick enough thread, which this one appears to have. Another thing that helps is having some thread on the spine to keep the page groping together. As far as I can tell (without destroying the book, this has that as well, which may be why the spine is nice and flexible. The pages are a nice thickness, making the pages easy to turn with dry hands (I really dislike thin pages that I have difficulty separating). Overall, this is a notebook that is pleasantly soft, well-made, and provides a classy aesthetic in my opinion - a simple yet elegant style. ... show more

    • Nice but bleed through
The overall build quality is pretty good and I don’t feel like sheets will come loose or anything. They do open flat (aside from first handful of pages just because of the ratio of pages turned but once you get through enough sheets it is for sure flat) Has some nice details like a date location on each page. Biggest con would be the paper weight is not quite the best for certain pens. When using the Pilot Varsity Fountain Pens you can definitely see through the page and in some instances have some bleed. It also doesnt dry too quickly as the paper isn’t the most absorbent so be sure to blow to dry the ink. I’ve also used a refillable pen with some tougher ink and that for sure bled through. Not too big a deal for me but if you’re looking for some cleaner sheets and use stronger pens these may not be the best option in terms of paper weight. ... show more

These are much nicer and heavier duty composition books. I got these to replace the older composition books I normally buy at Office Depot and I can't be happier. Heavier duty and very easy to write in. Perfect for the students and journal keepers.

With this sort of notebook, I'm a value shopper. I like the look, but not enough to pay $25 for a genuine Moleskine. These get the job done. The ruling is wide for my taste, I prefer 6mm or at least the more standard (in my experience) 7mm. But for the price I can get used to it :) Would do it again and recommend. ... show more
