  • Good overview on How to use Social Media
The book 500 Social Media Marketing Tips talked about how us as future business owners and entrepreneurs can help prepare ourselves to be as successful as we can. It went through all the main social media sites like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, Google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Blogging and Snapchat. All these channels offer a unique set of advantages in the online business world. Facebook is the most common and widespread internet business source you do almost anything on Facebook. You can start a business page rather than a user like what we use as just people and from their you can make criteria on who, what and how you want to reach your target market. Through pictures, links, videos and everything else Facebook has to offer you can grab the attention of all the users you can possibly reach. When selling a particular product or set of products you can choose what type of clientele you want to reach. Similarly, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest you can create specific business accounts to help create a much more professional approach to starting an online business. Although, each of these apps offer a little different service, Twitter has a bigger client interaction approach. The more users get involved the more ads they are gonna see for their interest. Instagram uses videos, live streams and stories to get customers involved and excited to be apart of your business. Pinterest also utilizes pictures and with Pinterest customers can save the advertisement and post where as instagram there really isn't a way to save a post. Another source LinkedIn and also Google plus you get the much more business aspect of Social Media Marketing you can see through starting “Groups” and gaining a following that you can either embrace the competition or fold. Google+ offers conferencing where you can bring in you customers for a more personal experience. The last two types I want to talk about are Snapchat and Youtube, Snapchat works mainly as support for other Social Media channels. It helps with keeping in touch with your customers but it also keeps them wondering since snaps are only around for 1-10 seconds. Youtube is the biggest search engine on the internet for bloggers and business owners people work hard at keeping people in the loop by posting live videos and streaming. My overall impression of the book was that it had a lot of information and it did a good job at explaining all the information. I worked in Social Media Marketing for awhile and I used Facebook to reach my target market so I know first hand what it’s like to create ads and such. A lot of the ideas like how to gain followers and gain a broader reach was just a refresher but I never even knew that LinkedIn and Google+ were such big hot spots for Social Media Marketing. Also it was nice how it went in depth about how to help with taking pictures and videos, i never really thought about how angle’s filters and things can really affect what your following wants to see. The first key point I want to touch on is from Twitter, I knew of the idea to “Pin” important Tweets but I never knew how important it was. In the book it talked about how pinning important Tweets can really help keep your target markets attention. Secondly, Youtube being the leader in Social Media Marketing must be taken advantage of. Learning how keeping your following updated by having daily live videos really made things clear to me why I see so many people posting live videos nowadays. Lastly, I want to touch on the importance of brand ambassadors. In the beginning on the book it talks about how having people help you by posting videos, pictures and even having a following of their own can really help you grow. Now onto analyzing, throughout reading this book I noticed a few things that I would have likes a little differently. The first thing I felt like I would have liked a little different is how the chapters were laid out. They were laid out with just headings and then a description. I would have like a more step by step approach, there didn’t seem to be much of an order at all it was just what came to mind first. Maybe by numbering each paragraph and heading underneath topics the book could have seemed a little more organized. The second thing was I felt that there wasn’t enough information for some of the categories. Like Google+ for instance, I am not familiar at all with it and I still feel as if I wouldn’t know what I’m doing if I were to start a Google+ account. It would have been nice if they went into more of a process on how these applications work. Also with Pinterest I am not very familiar with it and feel that if I wanted to start a company Google+ and Pinterest would be the two i would stay out of for sometime until I get a better understanding on how they work. The strengths of the book were clear, it gave a broad understanding of the benefits and ways these applications can help you be successful. But I would say the weakness is if you came into reading this book knowing nothing about social media marketing you would be so lost. They really needed to help people gain an understanding on how they even work. I would recommend this to others because it does give them a great overview of how to be successful. I wouldn't recommend this to my Grandma because she would be incredibly confused and lost. In conclusion, I feel this book helped me get a refresher from what I learned at my old job on how to reach lots of people and how to gain followers. But it also showed me a lot I didn’t know, like how Google+, LinkedIn and Youtube are very popular ways to be successful as well. Overall I would say it was a good read and it helped me gain a much better understanding on Social Media Marketing. ... show more

  • Good overview of social media marketing
Full disclosure: I purchased this book for a Social Media Marketing class I am taking, and this review is a required assignment. That being said, I would suggest this book to those new to social media marketing. Andrew does not make the subject of social media marketing overly complicated and offers links to many external resources to help get the most out of your marketing budget. Throughout the book the author emphasizes the importance of story-telling when using social media to develop and promote your brand. The book is very text heavy. It would be more readable if the author had included some visual images throughout the book. I would have liked to see examples, both written and visual, of posts the author has used and ads he’s placed. Having examples would lend more credibility to the book and himself as a social media marketing guru. Ironically one of the tips in the book is to be sure that your copy is free of grammatical and typographical errors. However, there are several errors throughout the book which distracts from the content. That is why I gave the book 4 stars. ... show more

  • Easy to read good information
It's a good book, informative. When you suffer from ADHD, ADD, Anxiety, Stress and lack of patients as I do, you will want a book that doesn't ramble on and on. The tips get straight to the point so the information is easy to comprehend. It would have been nice if the fonts we're large enough that I don't need to use reading glasses. I am having a mid-sight crisis ... show more

  • Great implementations so far
This book gives great examples so far. I knew a decent few ideas but the book breaks into so much further than I realized on my own. It gives you all the information you need to express all the different potential marketing avenues for each social media platforms. My one and only complaint so far is that I've found quite a few grammar errors in this book. It should be presented a bit more professionally in my opinion but it does the job non the less. ... show more

  • Lots of technical info, but very little about strategy
What I liked about the book: - most social media engines covered - some ok info on best practices What I disliked: - the book is rather lengthy, lots of fluff - very little info on best practices, no case studies, no personal stories from the author - the book is too technical ("go to the left corner and press publish" etc), even though you could probably figure most of that stuff yourself - no pictures at all (probably because it would make this book much shorter) So all in all, it's a good book if you can't figure yourself how to start a facebook ads campaign. But if you are looking for some new ideas from a seasoned veteran of marketing business, look elsewhere. ... show more

  • Good Primer for Social Media Marketing
I bought the digital version of this book for a Social Media Marketing class I'm taking. Full disclosure, writing this review is part of an assignment for this class. That said, I found, "500 Social media Marketing Tips" to be an informative guide that covered a lot of ground. The book provides several tips and best practices for all the common social media sites. In addition to best practices, this book also includes links to a variety of free and paid resources separate from the social media sites that can help maximize your potential. Although the book is filled with valuable information, I found several grammatical and typographical errors throughout the book which is why I am only giving 4 stars. Interestingly, one tip in the book was to make sure your content employed appropriate grammar and was well-written. In total, "500 Social Media Market Tips" is a good resource that I think can help anyone improve in the areas of social media marketing. ... show more
