    • A Funny Mix-Up
The media could not be loaded. I’m part of a team working on an auto start-stop program. With traffic in Boston being so terrible and the weather from May to October being perfect for riding, I really don’t want to waste gas while idling in traffic or at stoplights, especially with a bike that has a larger engine displacement. This makes the start-stop system essential for my daily ride. Right now, we’re testing the vehicle’s repeated start-stop cycles, and this can be pretty tough on the bike—particularly on the CDI. Since the CDI is continuously transmitting signals during these cycles, it ends up working non-stop, which puts a lot of stress on it. Initially, I planned to wait for the original Honda CDI I ordered from my dealer in Japan, but it would take 1-2 months to arrive. So, I decided to get this one for my son’s Chinese bike as a temporary solution. Here’s where the mix-up happened: I accidentally entered my company address instead of my home address when I placed the order. So, my apprentice, thinking this was a test product, grabbed it and installed it on the test rig in our lab. He was even asking me why the Honda CDI had ChenXL written on it, thinking Honda had been acquired! We all had a good laugh about that. The funny part is that we ended up running a full test on it—10 hours straight, from 8 AM to 6 PM, pushing the system through nearly 6000 start-stop cycles. The CDI held up perfectly, with no issues at all. I’m still waiting for the original Honda CDI, but honestly, this one has impressed me with how well it performed. ... show more
