  • using it for the suspension part and other rubber components on 2014 Toyota 4Runner
Style: Clear Silicone Paste - 8 oz.
I originally bought this because I wanted to start doing my own brake jobs....then when I read the bottle it said it can be used on rubber and protect it...my 2014 4Runner has a ton of rubber bushings both on the suspension and on the frame for mounting the body...since the 4 Runner is body on frame design, and these bushings are huge and must play a very important roll over the life of the vehicle, I figure, let's slather it in there with the rest of the suspension components. I believe there are 8 main body mounts on the vehicle and I am trying to get them all completed over the course of a few weeks...I have just started working on this project and it is taking some time to get to all of the components under the car but I would say I am over half done...I have a little problem with frame rust as well...I have brushed off some of the rust and slathered some of this on there as well. Since we are going into the winter I want to try and provide as much protection to the vehicle as possible from the salt. I need to get the skid plates off the bottom of the car so I can clean in there and get some of this in that area as well. I also figure that it could be a little messy when working under the car so we will have to determine the long term viability but I'm not worried too much, if anything wipe off the area where you are working as necessary. We will see how this turns out after winter, but I am optimistic and excited to see if my experiment works to give my SUV some longevity. I also like the thickness of this over spray because of the amount of control you have over application of the product. Put on some rubber gloves and get a pile of silicone grease on there and go to town on everything you can see and grab. Ball joints, and toe rods, sway bar bushings and the sway bars themselves...these sway bars are under an intense outdoor environment no matter what you are doing and could use as much protection you can throw at them. A little goes a long way when using this stuff and you can hit a lot of the under side components over the course of an evening so application is quick and fairly painless. The longer gloves may come in handy while reaching and lubing all night long, but either way, I have not felt overly messy one bit. It really makes the black components shine nicely under the car as well. Lubing things in the past has been messy and smelly...this stuff has revolutionized my thinking on this area of maintenance and now goes with my new mantra: "you can never have too much lubrication" ... show more

  • THIS product was recommended by a mechanic on a do it yourself you ...
I live in the California Desert. Last year there was an international article that reported a 'new' color on the weather reporting spectrum to accomidate 'global warming' It seems there were temperatures over 110 degrees in parts of south east asia that year so they made this new color to 'show' on radar screens these new high temps. Of course, we who live in the California deserts had to laugh. It was 117 degrees the day I moved into my home many years ago and of course the ac was broken. I know this because driving down the street I noticed a clock that said 117. my mind regersered that was the time and I said to myself, well that's broken, it has to be nearer to 4pm. A few street lights later it dawned on me that was the temperature! at 4 in the afternoon it was 117 degrees. checking the external temp indicator on my cars dash, yep it was 117 degrees outside. having said that we discover endless damage to our cars because of the heat. One of which is the rubber seals around the windows. difficult and expensive to replace. THIS product was recommended by a mechanic on a do it yourself you tube video and I have to say THANK YOU. This did the trick. No more fighting the rubber casing to stay in the channels and getting stuck for hours on end hoping beyond hope not to stretch it out of shape or worse, tear or get a kink. I absolutely love this stuff and have found many more uses. This will forever and always be a staple in my garage. It was difficult to find and when pricing it at the local stores it was expensive. Reasonably priced on amazon and I didn't have to drive to orange county to get it at a fair price.....although finding a reason to drive to oc and stop at the beach is always nice too :) ... show more

  • Brake guide pins and pads lubricant
Style: Clear Silicone Paste - 8 oz.
I purchased this 3M Clear Silicone Paste (#08946) to use on my brake guide pins and the back of my new brake pads I would be installing. The delivery of this product was quick and without problems. The plastic bottle's lid has a brush attached underneath that is used to apply the silicone paste to your particular job. It is a heavy paste, about the consistency of jelly you would use on bread (do not use this silicone paste on bread!). It worked well for my brake guide pins and pads. I have used it on my electric gate opener arm and the rubber bulb on my antifreeze tester....all with good results. It should come in handy for other lubrication needs around the home (door hinges, tools, electrical contacts, O-rings). It is a thick paste, so it has to be spread with the brush on your project, but it won't run off. If your "project" can't come apart, this is probably not what you need, as a silicone spray would be more appropriate. While this paste is not completely clear, it most closely resembles in appearance the clear silicone caulk you would use for sealing cracks around the home (but this doesn't harden like caulk does). For the purposes I have used it for so far, I have been pleased. The price for a bottle of silicone was the only thing about this product that made me think twice about purchasing it. Seemed a little expensive....but it should last a while! ... show more
