I’d call it an intermediate-level option, well-suited for the advanced beginner who’s starting to develop spin and looking for something with a bit of surface texture to help with that. This version (without the edge guard) weighs in at 8.3 ounces, making it an intermediate weight that feels pretty responsive. The surface has a decent texture—enough to help generate spin—but when comparing it side-by-side to another similarly priced paddle I own, the texture here feels a little slicker. My other paddle seems to have more microtexture and grip for spin shots. It’s hard to show in photos, but you can feel the difference by touch. That said, this is a big step up from most beginner paddles, which are typically smooth and lack responsiveness. That’s why I’d categorize this one as “advanced beginner to intermediate,” while my comparison paddle might lean a bit more toward “intermediate to advanced.” It comes with an extra grip, which is a nice bonus, although I personally would have preferred a paddle cover instead.
