I've been using plastic or nylon zip ties in outdoor applications and have found those ties with direct sun exposure last only a summer or two before the material degrades, becomes brittle and breaks when touched. These metal ties will not have a problem with sun exposure. I have one application to hold a cracking wood plank together, that supports a wireless camera and solar panel. I have to constantly replace the nylon ties that are described as "UV Resistant", the ties last only one, maybe two summers. I also have another application that holds string lights on a metal gazebo frame with full sun exposure that "cooks" nylon ties. One caveat, the cut corners where the excess tie is cut has sharp corners and I recommend using a small file or rotary tool with a grinding wheel to take down the corners. ... show more

I needed some grip ties that would be difficult to cut and these work well for that purpose. When I use these grip ties I have to be very careful, once they are in place they are extremely difficult to remove. I believe that they could be dangerous if a child got hold of them because they could attach them to a limb and you would not be able to remove the grip tie.
