    • You get what you pay for...buy a quality plane instead unless money is your only consideration
When I bought this set I wasn't expecting to get something equal to the quality of a Veritas plane, but it was worse than expected. After 20 minutes of 80 grit flattening the bottom of the #4 I realized it was a futile endeavor and resorted to barbaric methods (bench mounted belt sander). Even after taking off around 2mm it still had a significant hollow on the sole that the belt sander never touched. The sole, before flattening looked as though it had been finish ground with pebbles (or maybe 5 grit) at the factory with deep gouges across the entire bottom. That would have been fine with me except for the ridiculous deviation from flat. The block plane and spoke shave were better, but not even close to what you'd expect, even in a lower priced plane. The blades also required significant work. Some work is expected due to the metal movement during hardening, but it was worse than a visual inspection should allow. None were acceptable, but the thinner spoke shave blade had curve in the bevel that I can only imagine was due to it being ground on a curved surface prior to hardening. An hour of sharpening finally got it to the point that a secondary bevel would allow for a continuous edge. As for the mechanical aspects of these planes, they are sub-par, but somewhat expected at this price point. Some adjustments have over a 360 degree backlash. The blade depth straightening adjustment on the #4 is ok, but on the blockplane it doesn't have much if any effect (just use taps on the side to adjust). There is paint on some of the mating surfaces that has to be removed for proper operation and even after a full teardown, cleaning, and oiling of all parts there is still a disconcerting grinding sound that is very apparent during any adjustment. Even with all of that said. This set can work pretty well. It just takes a ridiculous amount of time and effort to get it to the point where it is usable. I am getting good shavings at this point, but the question is if the work and effort needed is worth the savings. Not to mention the content battle of the adjustments where a 15 degree turn takes you from no shaving to too deep a cut. If I could do it over again I'd spend the extra money to get a quality set. It's just not worth the time and frustration to make this usable. And even once it is, it's still inferior to a quality plane in daily use due to the finicky adjustments. ... show more

    • Weak handle
The product I purchased came damaged. The larger plane handle was badly broken. I noticed it was not a solid piece of wood so this may have been the reason it crumbled apart. I put everything back in the box it came in and returned it, no problem. Have a nice day.

    • Quality tools for a good price.
I bought this as a gift for my son. He is making a longboard and had asked for it. He was very pleased. The case is nice and will keep everything together... my son is very organized so he liked that.

    • Sticker on the box was unwarranted
This was a gift for Christmas. Recipient was happy to get it. Cannot talk about the quality of the product, but did notice they put a giant sticker on the wooden box holder. That was a stupid choice as it makes the product look cheap.
