I recently finished my basement to living space and built a large closet in the area of where the water, gas and cable enter the house. I wanted to keep the area clean and useable for storing boxes of collectibles, but I also wanted to isolate and protect the utilities from any damage. We decided to box in the utilities behind studded drywall and add an access panel to the meters and shut off valves. This access panel was easy to install and perfect for the solution. Although the water comes up through the floor, the meter and shut off is in an area a few feet above the floor and the access panel provides enough room to operate the shut off and, in the inevitable event when the meter will have to be serviced or replaced, the panel is large enough to allow that to happen. The door is removable if desired for additional clearance to the space behind. The access panel is made of a thick high-strength reinforced metal frame and door with an excellent finish that will resist rust. The panel comes with a key to lock the door if you need that level of security. The panel is a very reasonable price for this level of quality.

I was really impressed with how solid and sturdy this access panel is — it doesn’t feel like one of those flimsy covers that bend or warp the first time you open it. I ordered this for access to water pipes that serve my bathroom sink on one side of the wall and my washer on the other side. This is taller than I actually need, but should do the job. It is made to fit between 16 inch centers. There are protrusions on the back side that are held to the 2 X 4’s with the enclosed screws. It measures exactly 16 inches between the protrusions. There is a key enclosed that will allow you to keep this access panel closed so you don’t have to worry that small detectives will crawl in to investigate! This door is expensive but is made from high strength galvanized steel. I doubt it will ever have to be replaced. If you want a good quality access panel/door that will last decades, I would definitely recommend this. As soon as someone moves my washing machine out of the way I plan on installing this one!

I recently received this 16 x 24 inch drywall access panel and we are using it in our new home build for a bathroom where the tank components are located inside the wall. This is one of those items you hope you never need, but if you do, it can prevent a lot of drywall damage later. The size works well with standard 16 inch on center studs, and the inset measures just over one inch so it wraps the drywall opening cleanly. Once installed, it only sticks out from the wall a little under half an inch, which makes it easy to visually soften with wall art or even a plant nearby. I like that the door can be fully removed when working, and it closes securely with a lock and key, which is important to me with grandchildren in mind. The panel feels sturdy, has a substantial weight, installs easily with screws, and is paintable so it blends into the wall instead of standing out. For something this important to future access, I feel it is a very good value and a smart thing to plan for during a build.

This is a really nice quality drywall access panel that fit perfectly between standard 16″ on-center studs. The panel itself feels solid and well-built — much sturdier than cheaper versions I’ve used in the past. Installation was extremely easy. I simply measured and cut a 16″ x 24″ opening in the drywall between the studs, positioned the access panel in place, and screwed the flange directly into the studs. The flange lined up nicely and held securely without any fuss. I didn’t need any special tools or complicated instructions — it was straightforward from start to finish. Once installed, the access panel sits flush with the wall and the door closes cleanly. It looks neat and professional, not like an add-on. The latch is smooth and solid, and the door doesn’t feel flimsy at all. Overall, this is a sturdy, well-made access panel that I would happily recommend to anyone who needs a reliable drywall hatch. Great quality and very easy to install!
