The incense matches the description. The aroma when burned is a warm, sweet, citrus smell that lasts as long as its being burned. Given that it's Grade 4 incense, you will find some tree matter in occasionally, and the incense will vary in size greatly. For burning, you will need to break larger pieces up. The aroma is good quality and is perfect for home prayer or as a base resin to make your own incense, though I wouldn't give it to a house of worship in this form. If you're making your own incense or burn incense in your personal prayer life, this is a great value. I underestimated how big a 16oz bag would be. ... show more

Before receiving this, I had ZERO experience of knowledge of Frankincense other than being mentioned in the Bible. When I saw it available, I jumped at the opportunity to have some of my own and immediately ordered it. I was a bit skeptical as to if it would have any practical use but I was excited to see/smell/understand it. It arrived today! I could FAINTLY catch a trace of the scent through the bag and, of course, immediately cut it open above the resealable line. Immediately, I was enwrapped by a earthy/lemony and very clean smelling aroma. Not overpowering - but the scent of the open bag is definitely noticeable from a several feet away. Not wanting to make a mess, I took it outside and dumped some out on my counter. There are bits that look like fine bark shavings, chunks that look like crystals and some that look like a powdery grey stone. Now, knowing that it is made of the dried sap of a tree that has been scraped free, the contents make perfect sense and I am able to discern that not much picking and choosing took place during the bagging process, likely just scoops of the raw material fresh from the tree. It's been a few hours since I handled the pieces and I have no skin irritation or anything like that (the Internet warns of testing it before applying to the skin if making a balm or liquid from the resin). The scent remained on my hands, very pleasant, for quite a while (well over an hour). As I experimented with different heating techniques to release the full aroma, I felt like I was discovering a whole new world of "smell goods". I've always enjoyed candles, wax melts, incense sticks and such... but never the "real deal" beyond a bag of potpourri. By the time I was done, everyone in the house had gathered around and we were all discussing our opinions of the scent, different ideas we had for ways it could be used and we all had a really nice experience TOGETHER. I HIGHLY recommend purchasing a bag of this. Not only does it smell wonderful and is a GREAT value for how much you get, the experience of exploring it, pulling out individual pieces and examining their beauty and just spending time together as a family doing something COMPLETELY new was WELL worth the price - even if it were now completely consumed and gone. As it stands, I haven't even made a dent in the bag. I look forward to enjoying this for a LONG time to come. FULLY recommend! ... show more
